Uhh, you sort of just ranted about what I wasn't even saying >.> Did I argue against it's role in competitions? or suggest items were the way the game is "meant to be played"? or denounce the reasoning behind why they are turned off? Or even suggest that everyone should be playing with items on? Or that there is no reason they were even given a reason to be turned off? No, my point was the "hate them with a huge passion" part

How can you hate with an immense passion...1/2 of the content, quirkiness, and nostalgia found in the battle system? How can you hate with a burning passion...something so simple as the fun of a Hammer playing the Donkey Kong tune, or the hilarity of an exploding barrel that you just chucked at your friends face? If you are so uptight about winning or eliminating luck, even when it's just for the fun of the game, that you would have to say that you hate them....why aren't you playing something else?

I completely understand the logic behind wanting to eliminate randomness and luck from competition, and not once did I suggest that this should be changed, my point is that even with their removal from competition, I wouldn't even suggest the 'notion that even Tourney players absolutely hate the existence of Items in the game. I'm sure even the great Tourney players don't mind an item match when playing the game isn't about the money or the competition, but just sitting back with friends.

So, I don't really understand in what universe you could absolutely hate items in Smash Bros.

Dear God, you took me seriously? IT'S THE INTERNET. Of damn course I'm going to over exaggerate. In reality I just prefer no items over items, it's just more fun to me to test skills than luck. Just to clear things up, I hyperbolize ALL THE TIME in this thread, it's just what I do.

I personally prefer games with items. Though it does add luck, I find it more fun since I don't play the game competitively (excluding being competitive to kick your friends ***)

    Anyway UPDATE.
    --------------------

A Smash Ball appears! The tension rises. Since it gives you an attack as powerful as the name Final Smash implies, everyone will battle to the death to get it.

There it is! Get it! Get it!

You can’t get the Smash Ball by simply touching it. You have to bash it and smash it many times until the player who breaks the Smash Ball gets it.

The Smash Ball’s endurance diminishes with each hit and with time.

How should you pursue it? Even this becomes a battle.

    Yes! I got it!

Once a character gets it and begins glowing on standby, he or she just does a standard special move to unleash the Final Smash. Just press the B Button without any directional input.

It depends on the particular Final Smash, but simply pressing the button at a random time or place might not work to your advantage.

Some can be dodged fairly well...

So pick a position that your move will strike from. Or create conditions under which you will definitely hit your foes. Do all of this while glowing on standby.

Now just jump up and fire off that Final Smash!

However, if the character on standby gets hit, he or she may fumble the Smash Ball!

    Even if someone has it,
all it takes is some aggressive offense...!

Do you use it as soon as you get it? Or save it for later? Do you run from an enemy who got it? Or do you chase him? You’ll need instant situational decision-making!

And then there’s an element known as the Pity Final Smash. Once a significant point advantage is reached, the losing player is given a bonus chance. When you get this, you will reappear after a KO in Final Smash standby mode.

It’s OK to give this out, isn’t it?

Now, if you don’t want to use Final Smashes whatsoever, you can restrict the appearance of this item in the Item Switch. If you just turn Smash Balls off, you’ll be set.

The game-changing Final Smash. Using it is fun. Running from it is fun, too.

    --------------------

Nothing new except for the last part, I didn't know about that.

So I assume that it'll move with every hit. I wonder though if by "smash" you have to specifically smash it or if you can just hit it. If so could Samus or other projectile users obtain it from a far with some carefully placed shots?

Best thing about super smash brawl is that sonic is in it and his final smash involves the 7 chaos emeralds =p

Finally some confirmation on whether Smash Balls can be turned off or not.

No, but you did say "Items are half the fun of SSB". That in itself, suggests there is some fun taken away from the game, indefinitely; 50% of it, in fact.

I did say at the end I "digressed" from the main point, so assuming I made all those comments in retaliation to your post was your own undoing, however I did intend to 'attack' your point of "Items are half the fun of SSB".

While I understand your logic on it, it's not as clear cut to say 50% of the fun of smash is 'taken away' if you leave items off. Fun is relative to how people prefer to play the game. Some people, regardless of whether they're playing competitively or not will enjoy the game more without items as opposed to with. Similarly, the contrary can also be true.

It's a big statement to say "half the fun" lies in the items when the opinion of 'fun' and the degree of preference for them are both incredibly relative to a player's taste.

My guess would be that projectiles would feign inferiority in comparison to actual melee attacks to hit the smash ball with. As well, if Samus, for example, tries to hit the ball with homing missiles, a person who's closer to the ball can use their body to block the shots temporarily while trying to hit it. Samus' fully charged cannon might be a different story, but they'd probably have to have it charged beforehand as I'm sure the charging time required for the full cannon would be enough time to have the smash ball stolen from you if you're up against someone capable.

Even then, you'd have to aim the cannon afterward, and it's not guaranteed you'd get the smash ball after one shot--as Samus' cannon has seen a significant nerf in strength.

I don't mind people turning items off, but I'm definitely going to be playing with them on when it comes to online.

    >_>;
With Meta Knights rapid sucession of attacks, it will make it extremely easy for him to beat the crap out of the smash ball. And Metaknight's Final Smash takes up a great deal of space, so that won't be a problem.
    So, basically I'm saying:
    "Whachoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?"

    although... gah, the controversy...
we'll hear all those people on YouTube and... possibly MySpace and dA whining that Master Chief or Spongebob isn't in...

seriously though... i clicked on a newcomer video with Master Chief and Spongebob in it... who in their right mind would want them in i don't know...

I would KILL Nintendo if they were stupid enough to add Master Cheif to the game. -_-

    so would I...
and it'd probably be impossible for people to even DRAW Master Chief now that Microsoft has him...

anyways, i have a gut feeling that the other third-party character(s?) will be unlockable.
Snake, Sonic, Pit, Metaknight, Ike and Lucas... those 6 characters i just HAVE to try.

Master Chief isn't even a third-party property and has never been on a Nintendo system, and Sakurai said no characters from Television...sooo, those are crazy ideas to begin with D=

Also, I'm totally calling that Geno will be the last third-party character addition

    King Dedede: Final Smash

    <Waddle Dee Army>

King Dedede’s Final Smash is a mountain of Waddle Dees called the Waddle Dee Army!

Hmm. I guess it’s in his character to leave the work to someone else.

    Everyone in formation!

    Clompity-clompity-clompity-clompity!

    Hup! Hup! Hey! Ho!

You can’t tell from a picture, but the speed of these Waddle Dees is quite a bit faster than the ones he normally calls. You need to watch out to make sure you don’t suddenly get swept off the screen.

But the most dangerous thing of all is that the spike-headed Gordos are also mixed into the crowd.

    Owwwwwwww!

    ------------------------------------------------------
This outta be useful for wailing on people while being distracted by waddle dees. And those Gordos look fun to kil with >D
