FUNNY STORY ABOUT THAT FOR ANYONE WHO DIDN'T KNOW SUMMER WARS WAS MADE BY MADHOUSE, THE SAME FOLKS WHO DID SAID DIGIMON MOVIE AND CONSIDERING THEIR SIMILARITIES I HAVE A HUNCH THAT why am I shouting I have a hunch that either (A) they pitched it as a stand-alone title and it was eventually turned into a brand work or (B) they used the Digimon franchise as a test bed for an idea they later planned to make into its own work
Might want to narrow it down to a single person instead of a studio. Mamoru Hosoda, is the guy behind both Summer Wars and first 2 segments of the Digimon movie. Mad House had nothing to do with Digimon since it belongs to Toei. He would go on from Toei, to Mad House, and then on to create his own studio.
Just responding to the post correction here... There are A LOT of reused clips and scenes. It's believed that Summer Wars was the originally pitched movie while the Digimon movie is what they wanted him to make. So when he got to Madhouse, he made what he wanted to years back.
