As the title suggests, there's very little (read: nothing) set in stone at this point, but we needed a place to discuss and plan seriously for this thing and a social group allows for this and more. In the original thread, we were discussing what rules or regulations we would like to implement, so, continuing that discussion here, what regulations do people want?

    Hayabusa suggested we follow these.
I agreed, but also suggested that we exclude the Uber tier. Yes, no? Anything you would like to add?

For those not familiar, the Pokemon metagame, according to Smogon (not all players follow Smogon's clauses), is broken up into tiers which attempt to give an equal playing field for all Pokemon. Pokemon in a lower tier can compete above them, though those in a higher tier cannot compete in a tier below them. Uber is the highest tier, and is basically made up of insanely over-powered Pokemon. You can look at Smogon's Uber list here, and I would also recommend looking at the other tiers as well.

We don't have to adopt all of Smogon's rules, in fact I would rather we not, but they do succeed at defining what is over-powered and what is not, and I think for the sake of diversity and keeping this a casual, friendly competition, it's best we leave out the highest tier. Do you agree?

Do you agree with the rules Hayabusa and I suggested? Anything else you would like to add?

We also need to discuss the finer details of organizing and coordinating a tournament.

    discuss, discuss, discuss

So this is an OU tourney then?
Also, is this on the actual games or on a simulator?

Ironically, I'm currently in the middle of making a thread specifically for proposing rules ._.

I'm perfectly fine with all of the terms above, but what are we going to say about poison. Not to bash a certain play style, you could easily just toxic - recover, etc. We should just eliminate all stalling tactics entirely.

Personally, I think Poison strategies are still viable -- you're not making yourself impossible to hit, there are plenty of ways to heal your Pokemon of the Condition (hell, Heal Bell fixes your entire party,) and some Pokemon aren't even hurt by Poison (Steel-types, for instance, and Pokemon with Poison Heal...obviously.)

I'm all for Haya's proposed rules, plus banning of Ubers. I don't have any other ideas for rules, but if I think of any, I'll add 'em.

Banning Poison/stalling is a no from me.

    Basically.
I'm pretty sure we decided actual games. I would personally like it to be on the games.

Do we want to start banning certain play styles? Once we do that we start to tell people how to play the game and implementing regulations for the sake of diversity starts having the opposite effect.

It'd be nice to use the games themselves, but if enough people want to participate but don't have the games, I'm okay with using Showdown or something instead.

The only play styles I want to ban are ones that would be very rarely seen anyway: infinite loops, like Recycling healing items.

Basically its hard to say "hey don't use hacked pokemon" because people are going to use them anyways. I know a lot of people dislike even the "legal" ones, but it is pointless to ban them because it's going to happen anyways.

theyre not technically hacked pokemon though. what i want to use are pokemon with perfectly legal stats, moves, abilities, etc. pokemon that you could breed to get but dont because you're lazy.

No I know I was just presenting an opposing pov for the sake of discussion. If people want to ban that strategy that's fine.

I mean... I'm fine with them. I don't know what other people think. Like Luxord said, there's basically no way we could stop you.

Do we want to move this to a simulator like Showdown? I think it would take away from the experience but it would allow more people on khv to play.
I would rather we not do this, but what do other people think?

Trust me, I know exactly what you are talking about (ex coder here bro D:). But still, some people don't like the concept which is what I've been trying to say. I am neutral on the subject however.

    I'd prefer the actual game.

I personally think it would be a whole lot easier. I'm all for the experience of playing on a DS, but showdown just takes all the boring parts out and lets you go straight into the battle.

That can be a separate tournament, for whomever can't play the actual video games or prefer the alternative.

    I'm fine with genned Pokémon.
