Implemented Suggestion salad-lite

I've got some questions and suggestions that alone shouldn't be bothered with, but if placed together could amount to something.

• User groups : I'm sure most people use this for the lulz here, but we almost have groups for any fad of the moment, which are then left alone, and nothing done with them. Why do we have so many? Is this really required? User groups should be the way that normal members can join people with the same interests, but here it's just a mess of groups that sometimes don't even make sense, other than Lulz.
  
  
• Forum Families : Okay, I'm sure there are differences in here and in the user groups, but really...that area seems kinda strange, mainly because it's just like the user groups. I know it's in the spam zone, but do we really need to make so many families/ fan clubs. If the families were generalized more, then we'd have something more organized and entertaining.
  
  
• GFX Clans : This area is utterly dead. We have a great graphics community, and some, that under the right tutelage can become really good. I'm glad that the SotW is being taken up again, that will help with getting people back into graphics and what not, but, what will the clan section become?
  
  
• Sticky color : Stickies are sometimes ignored, even when they are placed in the top parts of the forums, so if possible, why not make the titles a different color, so that people pay more attention to them?
  
  
• Awards System : This one is an actual, full-fledged suggestion. Awards system refers to getting ribbon-like sprites to be able to present in your profile. I wanted to suggest this mainly because we have many competitions and nothing to commemorate them by. Imagine we could give SotW winners a nice ribbon sprite, so they could remember that they won that certain contest? Now, apply that to all the competitions, and even further with the User Awards. There would be a portion of one's profile to keep the ribbons somewhere. When I suggest this, the ribbon system in Pokemon comes to mind. Maybe we could get similar sprites to those? Or use those ones. This last suggestion may not be possible without SPdude, but it would be something nice to keep in mind if we ever get the chance.

 

First two, I think people should be allowed to create/join whatever user group/family they want.

GFX Clans... That section is so dead. XD

Sticky color... Is that even possible?

Last one... While it would be nice, I can also forsee a negative side. So I'm staying neutral on this one.​

 

Pretty sure that Kaxej had suggested it before and I liked the idea. I think if they can't do the ribbon thing, then I though of colored usernames. Also, the rule to keep gfx makers from winning twice in a row. It would seem a bit unfair if the same person won everytime.

even if it's to delete it..

Sticky color is possible, but I think that depends on the type of forum. I know forumotion lets people change the color of the thread title, but that goes for everyone, not just staff. I'm not sure if vBulletin has anything like that.

 

Sorry for bumping, but I think this is worth it. As for the first two suggestions...I know that everyone can create/join any group, but at the moment, they are there for the "lulz" isn't there a more specific use for them?

Agreed. Everything on this site when it comes to voting for khv, (user awards, question time, etc.) is just one big popularity contest. The problem with giving awards is that eventually they will become big ol' popularity contests too, and people will be voted for because they are friends of other people, not because they are actually good at ****.

The awards would really be whored to the max. It's already sad enough that the social ranking of most members here are just based on who is cooler than the other and who's got the more popular friends. I think we already have enough whoring in this forum. Let's not indulge the people by adding more to it. The site would go insane.

 

• Usergroups: Some people actually do use usergroups, and I think deleting them would just be mean. :/ It's just a fun feature for people to have, and in some cases it does bring together people with similar interests.
• Forum Families: Forum Families are pretty organized imo, but I haven't been there in a while so I'm not 100% sure. And yeah, sometimes it is like a second spam zone, but posts don't count so I don't really see a problem.
• Sticky Color: I agree that the stickies should have something that makes them stick out more (no pun intended), whether it be a color or something else.
• Awards System: Read Pyro's & Radiowave's post.

 

The User Groups are pretty much for the lulz imo. It should stay as it is.

The Forum Families is probably my favourite section. I've got so many memories from there. I made many of my friends there. I could never forgive KHV if anything should happen to it.

But the awards system. It could be possible to avoid the whoring by having staff control it. If certain staff (Repliku comes to mind) would be given the control over the medals, then I think it might be possible. Also, there should not be any medals that could make it into a popularity contest. Possible medals could be Most Posts, KHV Awards Winner (to some extend), KHV Awards Runner-up, Most Visits etc.

They could be more statistical things.

 

I'm not saying we should delete the user groups. I'm just asking if there's a way to make them more meaningful.

As for the award system, I believe it wouldn't be whored. They would only be used for SoTW and Poetry contests. The two aforementioned are pretty easy to keep track of, and the admin in control can ultimately decide if the person deserves the award.

The awards would also be used for the User awards. This one most of the time is a popularity contest, but the votes this year weren't really biased(mostly), every new addition gets whored sometimes, does that mean we ought to stop adding new things because they could be potentially whored? If the whoring gets out of hand, then that bridge will be crossed once we are there.

The awards themselves would be easy to control in regards to neutrality. It's not like I'm asking for an awards system similar to Xbox, in which case would be easily whored.
