You might want to get it checked if it does that frequently.

I bet you are beyond pissed now, right?

They should do their job right at the modem factory! What idiots!

I don't really miss anything from the Internet going down or out. It's just annoying.

Some routers reset themselves to make sure there's nothing wrong with the software. I was always glad when our old one did it, because then I knew there was less chance of it not working.

Except our modem does it, not the router. However, I noticed before we got a router because the Charter modem only had one Ethernet plugin, it was fine. It's something about being connected through the router, I think, but I'm not sure.

Well some routers don't need to be connected through a modem. That may be it?

I dunno, maybe. Unfortunately, we need it; otherwise, my mom and I can't be connected to the Internet at the same time.

Mostly only broadband requires the use of a modem. I'd check with your ISP to see if you need to be running it through. I'm only running off of a router but I have DSL, not broadband. But anyway, check with your ISP. They'd be able to tell you what the problem is.

I wonder how many people wouldn't know what to do if all the interwebz just disappeared. I mean, how can you live without Google and Facebook and Youtube, amiright?

That makes two of us. If it wasn't for googles/bings search engine capabilities, and me often needing an answer to something, I wouldn't need it. As for Youtube, that's just for entertainment. I don't really care about it.

Does it reset randomly or does it reset if your doing something in particular? Like uploading or downloading big files?

Just at random times. I once missed updating my YouTube one day because I was doing it late at night right before 12:00 AM, and the modem reset itself. The reset process takes about a couple of minutes.

It's not every day, but it is frequent.

It could be several things, like faulty cables/filters or it could be something on their end. If you haven't awready you should give them a call to test your line. You should also see if there's any firmware updates for your modem.
