The original thread was really old, so...

I have decided that my new favorite Ghibli movie is Whisper of the Heart. Totoro is a close second, with Howl's Moving Castle in third.

I'm also pretty stoked to see The Secret Life of Arriety when it comes out. :3

I really enjoy a lot of the Ghibli films as well. I think my favorite will have to be Kiki's Delivery Service. It was my first Studio Ghibli film, and I think it is better than many of the other films that I have seen (I haven't seen all of them).

I haven't watched a Studio Ghibli film that I haven't liked. I did feel that Whisper of the Heart seemed to drag on for longer than it should have, though.

My favourite is probably Spirited Away or Grave of the Fireflies. The story of Spirited Away is just so compelling and unique, and the complex characters and the music; I just have so much love for it as a whole.

Grave of the Fireflies is easily the most powerful, heartbreaking, realistic war films. I recommend that everyone watches it. It doesn't get as much publicity because it was the only Studio Ghibli film that wasn't distributed by Disney in the US. Just... prepare for much tears.

To be honest, and I'm a bit ashamed of it, I've only seen Howl's Moving Castle, and then bits of Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away.

    I've really always wanted to see Ponyo and My Neighbor Totoro, but I've never gotten around to it. ;~;

Of all of the Studio Ghibli films I've watched, I would have to say that Howl's Moving castle is definitely my favourite. I enjoyed the story, the characters. I also loved the soundtrack (: .

I also really liked Kiki's Delivery Service (I still have it on VHS), My Neighbour Totoro and Laputa: Castle in the Sky.

I saw Ponyo with some friends and I thought it sucked.

Spirited Away, however, is one of the best Ghibli films I've seen. The story is just.... intense. I love the characters and the weirdness of the Spirits.

I like all of them honestly, but first Ghibli film I came upon was Princess Mononoke as it was the first time CGI and Animation came together in a Miyazaki film and decided to see more of these Miyazaki productions so i got the entire boxset before Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo were even born.

Although favourites wise, Spirited Away, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle btu each film has a different messege to the audience it seems.

    Thank you!
Everyone told me it was good, but I just didn't think it was that great.

As for favorites I enjoyed, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Castle in the Sky. (Mostly stuff distributed by Disney)
I have yet to see My Neighbor Totoro, but I enjoyed the Cameo in Toy Story 3 though.

My favorite is Spirited Away followed by Ponyo and Castle in the Sky
Unfortunately I have not seen all of Miyazaki's films, I haven't seen Nausicaa, pocco Rosso, or Whisper of the heart :(

Spirited Away just blew me away the first time I watched it when I was younger, and will always have a special place in my favourite movie list of all times. The story really takes a lot of the imagination out of you, and the characters and concept are incredible.

They recently on Film4 showed every single Ghibli film (except My neighbors the Yamadas), and some by Hayao Miyazaki before Ghibli was created. I love all of them to be honest. The cat returns was a bit meh, and Whisper of the Heart was a little slow paced but I enjoyed them nonetheless. I think one of my favourites has always been Nuasicaa of the valley of the wind. It's so beautiful, it gets me every time :)

Ponyo I saw at the cinema, and I loved it. How could I not, it had Liam Neeson! But yes it did have some strange bits that could put people off. But then again, if you're not prepared for strange when watching a Ghibli film, don't expect to enjoy it.

Oh and can I just add Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro is not always classed as Ghibli for some reason, but It is absolutely ESSENTIAL watching. It's a real gem, both hilarious and touching :)

Oh, gosh. Spirited Away was my first Ghibli film, and I just immediately fell in love with it. I had grown up with the Disney classics and traditional animation, but Miyazaki's films brought something entirely new to the table that I was smitten with instantly. Out of all of the films, Spirited Away is my favorite, with Howl's Moving Castle in a very close second. :)

Of all the Studio Ghibli films, I've only seen around 10 I think?

    Castle in the Sky
    Grave of the Fireflies
    My Neighbor Totoro
    Kiki's Delivery Service
    Only Yesterday
    Porco Rosso
    Princess Mononoke
    Spirited Away
    The Cat Returns
    Howl's Moving Castle

I do have a small list I want to watch, though.

I know I'm going to get hated for this, but I don't love Spirited Away as much as everyone else does. Don't get me wrong, it is a good film and it has its merits. There's just nothing about it that seems that interesting for me though. After watching, I was all "It was an okay movie, but I don't need to ever watch it again". Like I've said before, Kiki's Delivery Service is my favorite Studio Ghibli film. /opinion

I've seen Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and Grave of the Fireflies.

Spirited Away was good. I don't have too much to say about it other than I don't love it as much as everyone else does. The presentation was stunning, obviously, but other than that everything else was just good. People overhype the hell out of it.

Howl's Moving Castle had an equally stunning atmosphere and presentation, but I wouldn't consider it a good movie at all because the narrative was so incredibly weak and disjointed. They don't do a good job of properly introducing and pulling you into the world either. Probably one of Miyazaki's weakest movies, tbh.

Princess Mononoke is probably the best of the three Miyazakis that I saw. It's the only environmental film I've ever seen that didn't come off as preachy, obnoxious, and blatantly slanted. The characters are pretty gray, so I like it for that. Plus the soundtrack was amazing.

Grave of the Fireflies, despite not being a Miyazaki movie and being a more personal and less grandiose story than all these other movies, is my favorite Ghibli so far because of how emotional and powerful it is. It is one of the most human animated films I have ever seen.

Ah yes, I remember that one, I was quite surprised at it's emotional volumes and such, heck, I'm a man and nearly cried at it.

I remember crying quite a lot the first time I watched it. I still do when I see it again. It's so very sad!

Yeah I love that film so much, but I really don't like watching it, it kinda emotionally drains me :(

    Studio ghibli films will always be in my heart ;__;

I saw that when I was little but didn't remember it until I saw it again and then I was like OMG THIS IS AMAZING. I'm a sucker for those kind of stories...
