I swear, there is a thread like this on every forum that exists.

Stereotyping is just... stereotyping. It happens to everyone, and everyone cares so much about it, yet it seems that everyone is stereotyping themselves. You are what you are, what does a "stereotype" matter. It's simply something created from someone's imagination. One person's view on a certain group could be completely different form someone else's.

Stereotyping is just stupid and doesn't deserve to be discussed, intelligently or not.

You've really got to just ignore it. If you are hurt by stereotyping, then it means you believe in it. You shouldn't believe in it, it's just something people do and it shouldn't change your opinion of yourself in any way.

Sterotyping is for people with low self-esteem. It's only only thing that makes them feel better, because deep down they hate themselves, Mkay?

Ignore it whenever possible.... have a nice day! =D

Sterotyping is bad in any way, but really all we can do is stay away from it, try not to judge people by what we think their like without knowing them at all. I try not to sterotype as much as I can and that's about all I can do besides adding little comments here and there about "not everyone is like that" or "hey, thats not true, I have a friend that's the total opposite"

People call me EMO all the time because I wear girl jeans/tight shirts and have a nose ring =_=. But seriously, I'm not emo, I love life, and Im a really happy guy, and people are all like "go cut yourself haha" and Im just like "=_="

The fashion doesn't dictate who you are =P

I hate those "emo" sterotypes, my class jokes about that alot.

Not totally true, some people use their own fashion to show who they are, I would get into that but it would probably lead to a long explanation.

Sterotyping.....It's sorta fun to talk about it in a joking way. Like since I'm asian I like to say that I'm a horrible asian because I don't know how to speak chinese/japanese/korean /etc. and I'm not smart. xD

But I don't believe that it's right to truely judge someone by which group of people they match up with.

I think stereotypes are the bane of society and one of the biggest reasons people today are unhappy and feel like 'no one knows them' or they 'don't belong anywhere'. That's a pretty big boast to say so I'll break it down a bit.

Stereotypes are racial, gender specific, sexual preference specific, religious specific, wealth specific, nationality specific etc. If you are a black male, how are you looked at? Someone may say because you are that way, you are more likely to rape a white woman, you are in a gang, you love rap and hip hop, etc. If you are a woman who wears leather pants and a halter top, you are a ****, you sleep around or a cock tease, you are a lesbian or a dominatrix. If you are a white male in a business suit you are 'the Man', you are conservative and probably religious, you can't dance, you can't jump, you are a nerd. If you are an asian woman you must be good at working, know your math, love computers, speak 5 languages, and love anime.

In reality, that black man may be a CEO for a business and doing quite well for himself, have a wife and kids and be pretty solid, even if he is wearing a bandanna on his time off for fun. That white woman wearing leather pants and a halter top may feel comfortable in them, find the clothing maneuverable and relaxing and just want to be out for a good time, not even thinking about sex. She also may be a virgin and waiting for sex till she gets married. That white guy in the business suit may be a person that when he gets home likes to hang up the suit and go hang out at a metal bar or ride a motorcycle and also is a liberal person who works a 9 to 5 job like so many other people. That asian woman may not even know her ethnic language, may be working at stocking shelves in a store at night because she isn't so smart, and may abhor anime because she's sick of hearing every person say 'kawaii!' to her wrong.

We as a people are more diverse than a stereotype can ever say we are. If you are in a gang, you still do other things with your life. If you are a geek that likes Star Wars or WoW, you still may do other things with your life, of course! If you are religious, you probably like to do other things too! If you wear black clothes and eyeliner etc, maybe you aren't emo? Maybe you just like the clothes? Nah. This is the problem with stereotypes. They lock people into patterns and those who WANT to be of a group or clique fight so hard to do it that they forget that NO ONE ever is absolutely of that stereotypical quality all the time. It becomes a form of role-playing to mold yourself and become 2-dimensional. In the end, you just are lying to yourself.

However, people promote these things. How many girls and boys are there that try to imitate and emulate someone they see in movies, on tv, people on the streets, the celebs etc and think that it's SO COOL? What they forget is that even if they find similarities to a person, they are still themselves and also, what that person displays is also never the whole true person either, and you never know if it may be a facade for attention. So many people are under delusions of grandeur by stereotypes to either have prejudice against them or to want to be fitting in them and this, to me, really hurts people. I've known friends that have committed suicide because they did not fit in anywhere and also read reports and seen deaths on the news from this.

Of course you cannot fit in one place. We are all multi-dimensional.

I think this is already a topic.

Anyway, freaking get over it there is no escaping it. No matter what it will be there learn to deal with it, its part of the sociological make up of life. Putting people into groups and expecting them to go with the sterotyping.

Deal with it, there isn't much to discuss IMO.

My parents stereotype me a bit. I mean i'm not bragging if I can say I can fix an electrical problem by using this method, but the come at me like. 'Shut up, (my name) you don't know the first thing about this, i've had years of experience, and you are to young!'

Stereotyping age to me is the worst one that I face, just because i'm a teen I must be a trouble to society, hormonal, b@stard that only thinks about having sex 24/7. I only judge people by their character, the way they act, that is the only way to know your friends and enemies.

You think that being a teen sucks? Try being an 11-year old.

I go on forums, and I get badmouthed and called a n00b, as soon as I tell them my age. They don't even want to take the time to know me.

I mean, my parents know how mature I am, but anyone else gasps when they find out how old I am, in real life and online.

I met a 15-year old a while ago and she became close friends with me because she though I was a year younger than her.

Being young and having to get stereotyped is hard -_- People think I'm emo, too, because I like MCR.

Not to mention I get stereotyped for my sexual orientation, as well >.>

Believe me it doesn't get any easier as you grow, I don't show my age because people take a biast opinion, you shouldn't really tell anyone your age unless you trust them to treat you the same.
