    My mom and I just watched '09 Star Trek. I asked her if she wanted to watch it with me earlier this morning because it just happened to be coming on television tonight and I had just watched it last weekend.

    As it turns out my mom was a Star Trek fan back in the 70s when she was a kid. She made a couple references to episodes from TOS during the movie and knew all the characters before they were named in the movie.

    I had no idea my mom knew this stuff.

    She's also a big fan of Christopher Reeve Superman, or at least the first two movies. We're going to see Man of Steel either the midnight it comes out or the day after.

    Why am I just now finding out my moms cool after being alive for nearly 18 years?

    I do not know why this should be such a surprise. I "come back" on a weekly basis. Appreciate the enthusiastic welcoming, though.

    Anyways, more on point -- I found out my mother loves Hitchcock, smoked weed at some point, and is a trekkie. Interrogate thine parents, uncover hidden hobbies, secrets and/or talents. You'd be surprised.

    Both my parents were Trek fans as well as Star Wars fans. I used to watch Next Generation with them every now and then as a kid and I've seen all of the original Trek movies though I really only remember Nemesis. I really love the rebooted movie series though, it gives me great hope for Star Wars Episode VII. JJ Abrams is the god of modern sci-fi.

    My opinions of the series can be summed up as follows:
    DS9 = TNG > Voyager = Star Trek >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Enterprise

    Picard was a true real *****. Kirk is only cool in the Abrams films.

    Abrams' Star Trek is Star Trek for people who are not fans of Star Trek.

    I watched this film the other day and quite enjoyed it, it's made me want to watch the old series.

    My mum, when she met my dad, didn't want kids and saw my dad as a fling. They have now been married for 26 years with 2 kids >.<

    If you don't have the patience for philosophical discussions in space and would rather watch a more action-oriented flick, then I suppose so.
