For all you Trekkie fans that didn't know beforehand, the first trailer arrived very recently! What do you make of the film so far?

Well, I'm not really a Star Trek fan (mainly because I've never had the chance to watch it) but I am looking forward to this film and the trailer got me very excited! Now, just have to wait 6 months for it to come out.

It doesn't seem interesting from a continuum standpoint, I really didn't like the first movie's way of loop-holing practically EVERYTHING that happened in all of the series. Just throw some borg in there and cool new starships and I'll be happ-*shot*

That other guy reminded me of Khan, it would be interesting it it were him, given the second original Star Trek movie had him in it. Genesis Device anyone? No? K imma jus go back into my corner...

    We'll see, I dunno though.

I tend to regard these films as a prime example of what happens when a fan begins to write for the series. My beefs are primarily personal ones - not a fan of the Spock/Uhura dynamic, for one. I can, however, understand why they used her as they did. Uhura was a convenient plot device. Personal beef #2: Abram's spin on ST attracts a whole 'nother sort of audience. JJ Abrams himself has admitted that the reboot takes after Star Wars. I don't want Star Trek to become another Star Wars.

Personal beefs aside, I am looking forward to this movie. If the antagonist is who I suspect he is... *cough* Gary Mitchell *cough*

#1 depicted below - unnamed science officer featured in trailer & Elizabeth Dehner from Where No Man Has Gone Before

#2 Benedict's soliloquy reeks of superiority. Befitting of an omnipotent being, wouldn't you say?

Wow--trailer shows only a bunch of booming noises and music that sounds exactly like The Dark Knight Rises. If I'm correct, this movie won't be as good as the first one... Anyway-- I hope it's good because I won't waste money on a movie that looks like Battleship.

Jeez, every time I try posting in here I launch into a long rant about Star Trek movies before realizing that... Well nobody would probably want to read it lmao.
I'll leave it at this: I'm personally fine with watching Abrams' Star Trek as a movie... But I'd flip my desk if it was a series pilot.

But anyway, excited for the new film and I hope it turns out well. I'm also dying to know who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing...

There are some Wrath of Khan parallels from the previews so far to be sure -- the pre-Hobbit one and the Japanese extended teaser both have some similar lines and moments, but Gary Mitchell is also a distinct possibility. I did hear though that he might be someone else entirely -- I guess we'll have to wait and see...

I agree with LARiA about Spock and Uhura, I wasn't particularly fond of that. But meh, I guess as long as it doesn't take front and center the whole time it's not a personal deal-breaker, and I suppose it could grow on me.
    Looking forward to the release.~

Now THAT trailer looks badass. I've always been a Star Wars and Star Trek fan and I can't wait to see how the second movie would turn out to be.

Your hypothesis does indeed sound very sound, I believe I recall hearing the antagonist
being that of Starfleet, which would work well with Mitchell.

I guess if they get into more content from the original series without ruining it, I would enjoy it further. Upon what you and Stardust said, I believe I could bear to at least enjoy it from an action standpoint, but most definitely not from the series standpoint if they intend to go the opposite direction thereof.
