It has already hit WV and its headed our way to Kentucky =O

All of the Students at my high school got a letter explaining that they are just rumors, but no. they aren't.. I can name 5 people off the top of my head who has "Staph" at my school.. One school in our County has planned to protest to get out of school. We have signed petitions, and everything... but the principal has agreed NOT to clal home with the reason for Staff infection.

If you have any questions over "Staph" (Staphylococcus) ask here, because I have in my hands a handout about it. AND those in WV, please tell what is happening so far. I Would really like to be informed

we'll it's this supervirus. the origonal one was able to be treated with anti-biotics. this version however can't be treated with those anti-biotics.

that's what my health teacher told us yesterday.

Well its coccus, so that means it takes the spherical shape. I've only heard of them in food poisoning...But yea I think I've heard we have outbreaks here in VA too.

I heard about this. My science teacher handed us a print out article about that guy on the football team at his school that caught it.

    ... he died... :'[

So far, all I know is that they're deciding on what to do, I think.

    But I'm not sure. :\

I heard that there were outbreaks in England not too long ago.

Someone in my town got Staph =/ I also heard about someone in Connecticut who died from it. Supposedly once it enters your blood stream, its fatal. But besides that you get some type of rash and it hurts. And its a supergerm, so no antibiotics have had any effects on it. I was wondering, where did it come from?

Wikipedia has a good article about it:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methicillin-resistant_Staphylococcus_aureus

The deaths from this have passed the deaths from AIDS in the US :(

Wow, blue tounge foot in England? I never heard of that one. Sounds silly.

:\ But yeah it's a supergerm and I think people are going to freak out about it if they don't quarantine the areas...

Thanks for scaring me. If it gets to New York. I am wearing one of those docter masks, and a band-aid when I get a cut.
And roll around in a plastic bubble.

Its not airborne(sp?) and it only kills you if it gets in your bloodstream. Keep washing your hands and dont put them in your eyes mouth or nose.

We got a handout for it yesterday in school as well. And it's scaring me a bit. I'm not a hypochondriac but I think I might actually have it. I'm gonna do more research.

It is two seperate diseases, Foot and Mouth disease and Blue Tounge disease. Foot and Mouth struck before and crippled the meat industry in the UK. Every country closed it's ports to British Beef. The US's ports are still closed to this day. Then recently there were outbreaks caused by the accidental release of the virus from a research facility, one of the few in Europe authorised to handle the virus for safety reasons.
Blue tounge disease has made it's first appearance in the UK. It was in Europe and is spread by midges. This, as you can imagine, makes it very difficult to contain.
Both of these lead to the mass culling of animals. It is really destroying the primary sector =/

Lol I just saw MRSA in that document. That is the disease that is sweeping through hospitals in the UK. People go in for a simple routine operation and come out in a body bag with MRSA on their death certificate.

Like a lot of bacterial infections the best control for MRSA is good basic hygiene. This strain of Staphylococcus is antibiotic tolerant which is why it is so difficult to treat. From the cases in UK hospitals good hygiene practice such as washing your hands properly and cleaning up correctly can have a major effect. Most Staph. bacteria are environmental bacteria and Staph. aureus is naturally present on human skin. This is why there are so many handouts on hygiene. Educating people to behave in a hygienic and sensible manner.

A lot of people suffer from 'it will never happen to me' syndrome. In reality anyone can become infected if the conditions are right, but following simple and easy instructions can literally be a lifesaver. As for the MRSA in hospitals in the UK, major steps in education and cleaning have taken place and many people go into hospitals and successfully have operations with no risk at all. The best advice is to wash your hands properly, clean down surfaces properly and don't panic.
