'Square-Enix Presents' Interview with Tai Yasue

As stated earlier, 'Square-Enix Presents' conducted an interview with Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMix and Kingdom Hearts 3 Co-Director Tai Yasue where he answered questions sent in by fans. A summary of the interview is provided below:

-No multiplayer for BBS in 2.5 ReMix due to team's commitment to focus on KH3. Instead, Mirage Arena modified to include more challenges.

-Re:coded will be around 3 hours long, with new scenes added to connect to other games in the series.

-Very little (if any) gameplay changes to KH2:FM and BBS:FM

-2.5 HD ReMix was intended to be a better remaster than 1.5 HD ReMix

-Textures and models modified, especially in BBS.

-KH2's full potential will be realized on the PS3.

-Castle of Dreams was the most fun world for Tai Yasue to work on.

-BBS camera and controls modified for PS3.

-Wanted to include Vincent from FF7 in BBS, but no compatible setting for him prevented that.

-Favorite Disney World is Timeless River

-Over 70 people working on 2.5 HD ReMix (35 involved in cutscenes). KH3 is being developed simultaneously, hence there's lot of overlap.

-2.5 HD ReMix is 95% done.

-BGM is re-recorded. Environmental sounds added (such as fountains)

-When asked about a Disney world he wished he could add in a previous title, Tai Yasue said that he thought 'Frozen' was a special movie...

-KH3 development is going full throttle.

FFDream just posted another interview with Tai Yasue.
I' ll spare you what has already been said in every interview so far, here' s the interesting bits :

- Keeping your secret endings habits in mind, have you added some sort of introduction to KH3 in 2.5 ?

- Not really. There are secrets and cutscenes in the theater, things that tell the story behind the story. Everything already builds up to KH3.

- The story of KH is extremely nebulous, will KH3 answer all of our (numerous) questions ?

- There' s a lot of questions indeed, a lot of threads that are still up in the air and will reach a conclusion in the third episode. But not a second before (laughter) ! There' s a missing link, Terra will have a prominent role in KH3.

- Will KH3 feature more FF elements ?

- We' re still thinking about the Square Enix touch we' ll add to KH3. For instance there' s been a lot of new FF characters lately. We' re thinking about it at the moment. Things aren' t set in stone yet. I' m planning to add a new character related to BBS on the planning (laughter) ! KH3 will be sort of an encore of the previous installments, it will answer a lot of your questions through numerous characters. Actually, I think if you introduce too many new things it just opens new avenues, and therefore new questions (laughter) !

- When KH2 got released here it was dubbed in French. Players have a lot of affection for the Disney voices of their childhood, can we hope to have them back ?

- Unfortunately, for now, we only have English dubs for the added scenes and haven' t planned to localize those. It would be weird to have a French dub with English chunks.

- Do you have favorite characters ?

- A lot of them ! I love Aqua, Terra and Ventus, they' re great and they' re pretty popular. I also like Jack Skellington. And Jack Sparrow, I love his attitude, his voice, the way he moves is trully unique (laughter) ! Oh and I love Pete ! Everybody hates him, but I love him ! I think that' s because he' s sort of a "dark hero", as we' ve seen in BBS.

- It' s quite uncanny to see how much of a crowd every KH-related event manages to gather, in spite of the fact that KH2 was released 10 years ago.

- Yes, I think the fanbase has actually grown year after year. It is uncanny !
