This game was one of the best reveals of E3 and it needs its own thread. Splatoon, one of Nintendo's brand-new IPs, is a Wii U-exclusive shooter coming in 2015. It's an eight-player territory battle; you transform between a human and a squid in order to paint as much of the battlefield as you can with your team's ink color. Since I feel like I'm not doing the game justice with my description, here are gameplay videos:
DAY. ONE. I've been sorely lacking a good, clean, happy game for a bit, and more so a good multiplayer game on console. This is just too good to pass up.
The irony that Nintendo brought the only shooter with an ounce of creativity to E3 humors me. Game looks great and I hope it does well, though, like every other time Nintendo tries a new IP, I don't have the most optimism about it.
Boy, between Titanfall, Halo 5, and Splatoon, I don't think I'll even be able to play single player games anymore. But yeah, this game looks fantastic. Everything about it screams originality. Beign directed by two up and comers at Nintendo is nice to see, too.
During their Direct stream yesterday, Nintendo debuted a new trailer for the game. Most notably, the trailer contains footage of the game's single-layer campaign mode!
I think Nintendo's really taking a good road with pitching this game to Wii U owners. They want the multiplayer prioritized, so they kept the single player in the dark. Then they show the single player and it looks ANYTHING but tacked on- it's probably been in development as long as the multiplayer! Guaranteed. Day One. Purchase.
Something I forgot to add from that direct; the game has been specified to be released during the second quarter of 2015.

Splatoon will be released on May 29! The game will also have three amiibo released--a male Inkling, a female Inkling, and a squid. The Inklings will be available separately, but the squid will only be available in a three-pack of the amiibo. Scanning one of these amiibo will unlock special missions, which in turn unlock special gear and equipment that can't be obtained otherwise. The game will also have a 1v1 mode called Battle Dojo, in which two players--one looking at the GamePad screen, the other looking at the TV screen--compete to pop as many balloons and earn as many points as possible. Splatoon just finished a half-hour Direct. Here are some highlights: A demo will be available on the eShop TODAY with global matchups occurring tomorrow and Saturday. Pre-ordering Splatoon at Gamestop will net you download codes for Splatoon-themed Mii Fighter outfits for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Nintendo will host regular online matchup events called Splatfests, yielding special in-game items. The first one will be held June 20 and 21, dividing up teams by Team Cats or Team Dogs. One more Global Testfire Demo will be held! The demo itself is available once more to download now, but the demo won't go live until May 23, where the competition will begin at 3pm PT/6pm ET.
