    WHAT?!

You've got to be kidding me, right?

Kairi can't go back to Destiny Islands?!

    WHY!!!

Oh jeepers crimony, Sora is going to be soo upset.

I don't even know if I'm going to be able to read this next chapter, especially if Sora is going to be sad. I can't stand him in that state. It makes me cry... *pout*

Good job, nonetheless. Can't wait for more!

*stares in total disbelief at the results* You've gotta be kidding me...this is what gets this story noticed? The supposed impossible coming true?...I should try that more often. lol

Next chapter, kiddies. It's a long one, but believe me, it's a critical one:

Sora walked towards the main town square, getting a few weird stares from little kids along the way. The people acted like they had never seen him before. At least that's what Sora thought, until one kid voiced from behind him, "Man, that's the ugliest Santa costume I've ever seen!"

That kid had better be happy I'm the hero, otherwise I'd tell his mother..., Sora thought, annoyed.

Despite the stares, Sora found the main square, but it took him awhile before he found Riku and the King. If it hadn't been for the fact that Mickey was a mouse, Sora probably would never have found them. The two of them were on ladders, at opposite ends of some poles trying to put up a sign which read, "Radiant Garden Christmas Party", and it turned out their outfits had changed as well. Mickey had on some fake reindeer antlers, a red nose, and some kind of harness over his normal clothing. Sora called out to them, "Hey!"

Riku turned to towards Sora from on top of the ladder, and started laughing. "Nice outfit." he managed.

Sora raised an eyebrow, "Considering you look like Wink from 'The Legend of Helga', I don't think you have any room to talk here, elf-boy."

That was true: Riku had on some white tights, a laced, green, short sleeved over-shirt covering him down towards the lower base of the tights, brown leather boots and gloves, a green stocking hat, and some fake elf ears. Mickey pretended not to hear the comment, but Riku saw the grin he was trying to hide. Riku quickly nailed the sign on his end, and jumped to the ground. "Touche," he said, "a little harsh, but good point."

"After the runaround you guys gave me, yeah, you bet I'm gonna take a few shots," said Sora.

Riku frowned a little bit, "So...what do you think about this?"

    Sora was confused, "About...what?"

Riku took a deep breath, "All of this...what we did...you know, why we couldn't tell you."

Sora shrugged, "Eh, I'm all right."

Riku was surprised. He thought he would've been more devastated than this, "What? You're...you're really all right with this?"

"Well, I'm not too thrilled that you guys had to keep the whole 'restoring Radiant Garden' a secret from me. I still say you guys should've told me about it, but if what Merlin said was true, I wouldn't have tried to bother you guys so much."

Riku blinked. Something wasn't right here, "What exactly did Merlin tell you?"

Sora crossed his arms, and looked into the sky where clouds were starting to form, "Umm...let's see...the program with the picture, blah, blah, blah, darkness and light with the keyblades, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah, your taking care of the computers, etc., etc., summoning magics...stuff like that."

"Did he tell you Kairi's role in all of this?" Riku asked.

"Sora closed his eyes, his head still up in the air, "Umm...he said something about helping Aerith with some white magic, but that's about it."

Oooh boy, he still doesn't know, Riku thought.

Sora lowered his arms and head, "Speaking of, do you know where she is? I've been trying to find her, but nobody seems to know where she is. I'd thought she'd be somewhere close to here, but no luck so far."

Riku shrugged. It was probably best if Kairi told him instead, "I don't know, but she said she was going to be here tonight for the party. If you can't find her until then, you can try here." Sora nodded, "Thanks."

"Sora!" Sora turned his head to find the voice calling his name.

Zack and Aerith came running towards him, hand in hand. Sora completely turned around and raised an eyebrow at the sight of them holding each others hand, "So, how long has this been going on?" Zack looked at who-knows-what, away from Sora, while Aerith looked towards the ground, both with a smile and a good blush on their faces.

"Well, we've been dating for a few years all ready, but I had to leave because I received an important message from Yen Sid, saying he had a message he needed delivered, about the Organization's leader being Ansem's former apprentice. Problem was, my ride got shot down, crash-landed on 'Sunset Horizon', and was stuck there ever since, that is, till Tifa and Cloud showed up," said Zack while he was looking away.

"So, you can imagine how...happy we were to see each other again," Aerith said, smile getting bigger, blush increasing.

Riku nodded slightly. He knew that feeling all too well.

Sora didn't quite get the message though, "So, when's the wed-Omph!"

Riku quickly got Sora into a headlock and covered his mouth, "Please, ignore the idiot. What brings you two by, anyway?" he said as Sora's arms were thrashing back and forth.

"Well, we came by to make sure that all our friends were going to be at the party tonight at 7 p.m.," said Zack, "There's something we need to share with everyone." Aerith nodded, "We've already checked with Kairi and the others. They're going to be their also, and" she pointed at Sora, "she says she has something she needs to talk to you about."

Sora managed to get out of the headlock, gasping for air, "Yeah *pant*, I'll be there *pant*. Besides, there's something I need to talk to her about, too."

Zack grinned again, "Alright, that's everyone then. Well, see you later!" The two of them walked back to who-knows-where, Aerith hugging Zack's arm as they walked away.

Riku smiled, "They sure seem happy together."

Sora pictured himself and Kairi in place of those two, Kairi hugging his arm as they walked away...

    "Yeah."

The time of the party couldn't come soon enough for Sora. It turned out that, unknown to Sora at the time, that it was a costume party (which explained to Sora why Riku and the King were dressed so funny). Everyone had something Christmassy on, ranging from something minor, from people (like Cloud and Tifa) wearing Santa caps, to something major, like Riku and King Mickey, wearing the elf and reindeer outfits and riding a sleigh (Mickey pulling it. Turns out the two were part of a Santa-Claus-gives-gifts-to-the-kids-thing, and Mickey drew the short straw of pulling the sled). Sora never laughed so hard in his life when he saw the two of them...

Despite all the people that have shown so far, Sora didn't see Kairi anywhere. Maybe she'll show up at 8. She always did take later to get ready, compared to the rest of us, Sora thought.

    "Psst!"

Sora looked around. Where was that coming from?

    "Psst! Sora! Over here!"

Sora turned around. Kairi was behind a corner of a building about ten feet behind them. She motioned him to come. Sora walked towards her.

"We need to talk," she whispered.

Sora thought for a moment, "Okay...I know a place. Follow me."

The two snuck off from the party, and walked a few blocks until they got to the square with the fountain that he, Tifa, Cloud, and Zack rested at earlier that day. Even though it was pitch black, save the light that was emitting from the fountain, they both could tell the other was nervous with something to say.

"Sora/Kairi, there's something I-" they both started. They laughed nervously at them saying the same thing.

    "You go first," said Sora.

Kairi gulped. This had to be done. "Okay...Sora, you know I don't want to hurt you, but this is something I have to do. I can't go back with you to the Destiny Islands."

Sora blinked, "Okay, umm...you mean tomorrow, right? Do you know when you'll be ready to come back?"

Kairi shook her head, praying that he couldn't see the tears welling up, "No, Sora, you don't understand. I'm not going to return to the islands. Ever. I have to stay here now."

Sora stood still, but everything else around him felt like it was moving or falling away from him. He couldn't tell which direction, he just knew nothing was where it should be. He shook his head once, and looked around, trying to find the idiots who were trying to trick him, "This is a joke, right? One of those things I've never really been able to get?" His eyes widened, he leaned in closer and whispered, "Or is this code?"

Kairi closed her eyes, and shook her head, "No. No code. No trick. All true."

The full reality of this starting to sink in, Sora leaned back, his mouth open slightly. He swayed a little bit. He needed to sit down or he'd pass out.

He quickly sat (or fell, depending on who saw it) on the nearby bench, "I don't understand...Was it something I did?" He looked at her, desperate to find what he could do to make this right.

Kairi's eyes widened a little. She didn't anticipate that Sora would blame himself for this. She got down on her knees next to him and held one of his hands in-between hers, "No, no, no, absolutely not. This isn't your fault Sora. Not at all. It's just," How in the world could she possibly explain this, "You know Ansem the Wise's role was in Radiant Garden was right?"

Sora was having a bit of a hard time thinking right now, but he managed, "Uhmm...yeah, he was a...scientist...philosopher...ruler-"

Kairi nodded, "Right. He was their ruler. Even though this kingdom is restored now, the law and order isn't. Ansem may have been a fair and just ruler, but he was still susceptible to darkness, and so were his assistants. Leon and the others have done some research on kingdoms of other worlds to find out why they didn't wind up having the same problems as they did, and the conclusion they had was this: They had a princess of hearts ruling over them."

Sora's eyes narrowed a little, "You mean the reason why you can't come back is..."

Kairi nodded, "I have to stay and learn to be their queen."

    Sora shook his head, "No."

    Kairi nodded hers, "Yes."

"I can't let you do this," Sora choked.

"There aren't any other choices, Sora. There are only seven princesses of heart, and I'm the only one who isn't a part of a kingdom. Plus, this is my original world, I have to help out. They need me," Kairi managed. Sora wasn't going to make this easy.

Sora took his other hand and clutched hers while his other hand was still being covered, "So does the Destiny Islands! Riku needs you, Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie need you..." There was pause and an eternity of quiet, "...I need you. I can't possibly survive without you, Kairi. You kept me going when the islands were taken, when I was searching for Riku. What was the point of my making that promise if we were going to be separated again?"

Tears started coming down Kairi's face, "Sora...I don't want to do this either, but this isn't about us. You've done everything in your power to protect worlds. Now I've got to do what I have to do to protect this one." She lowered her head on Sora's knees.

For a brief second, nothing else happened. Then Sora stood up, "Okay. If you have to stay here, then I will too."

Kairi looked up at him, still crying, but smiling also, "No. You're leaving the Destiny Islands would leave it defenseless and vulnerable to attack. Riku's a great fighter, but he's still recovering from Xehanort's heartless, as well as the darkness in his heart. He wouldn't stand a chance and you know it." She got up, turned around, and started to walk away, "I'm sorry, Sora, but this is goodbye."

Sora stared at the ground. This just couldn't be happening. What could he do though? There could only be a princess of heart rule Radiant Garden, and Kairi was the last of the seven! No one could replace her!

    Unless...

Sora looked up suddenly, Roxas in his head, This plan will work! Quickly, knothead, go after her!

Sora ran after Kairi, got in front of her, and put his hands on her shoulders, "Kairi! If I found another princess of heart, would it work if she could take your place?"

Kairi blinked, a few tears still left in her eyes, "What do you-"

Sora said it again, "Would it work?"

Kairi shrugged, "I...don't see why not."

Sora smiled, "Thanks." He quickly kissed her on the cheek and ran off to find Leon. He needed a gummi ship and fast.

    0.0 okay 0.0

By the way, not all of the kingdoms have princesses of heart and are still good e.g. Olimpus Colussium and Twilight Town. Wonderland has a princess of heart but is not ruled by it.

As for extra ones or new ones... Yuna or maybe Alice.

Grammar was good this time around exept for:

I found this a liitle difficult to understand.

Good tho, more needed now. Do you intend for this to be finished for christmas?

Hmm...True, but Alice is involved in Wonderland, so I guess technically she's the ruler (Good point, though. I missed that).

As for Yuna, nope. Good choice, but not who we're going to see rule Radiant Garden...she's the size of a sprite.

    Yeah, that's the plan.
*Fights the hypnosis* You cannot use the Jedi mind trick on me.

But folks, you've surprised me with your replies, and it seems I might need to speed up a little bit. If you're willing to wait a few hours, I'll try and get the next chapter posted today. I'll try and post it ASAP today.

EDIT: As promised, here's the next chapter, this one's a little long, though:

Sora ran as hard as he could back to the party. It was a good thing there was loud music playing; otherwise he’d never have been able to find the place again. By the time he got there, he was drenched in sweat, and a lot of people noticed.

“Where’s Leon?” he managed. “Here,” Leon called. He walked towards Sora, dodging people dancing as he went. Sora motioned Leon to follow him, and they walked about a block or two away from the party.

When they were far enough away that they could hear themselves better, Sora spoke, “I need a gummi ship. One equipped with a warp gummi and a navigation gummi that has Traverse Town in its maps.”

Leon blinked, “Why do you need those?”

Sora swallowed and said, “I’ve got a plan on who’s going to replace Kairi, but in order to do that I’m going to need to take Kairi and Riku with me and go to Traverse Town.”

Leon was surprised, but instead of showing it, he frowned, “Look, Sora…I’m sorry, but we’ve tried to find a replacement. She’s the only one who’s pure enough to rule and not fall to darkness, like Ansem did. I don’t want to see her do this either, but…”

Sora shook his head, “You’re wrong. There’s one person who’s just as qualified as Kairi is. I just need a few days to-”

“I can’t do that either,” Leon cut him off, “There’s another reason why we’ve chosen today to bring Radiant Garden back today: In terms of tradition, the crowning of the next ruler is always on Christmas Day, under the Christmas Star. Legend says the crowning under the stars light is supposed to be a blessing that the rule would be happy and prosperous.”

Sora blinked. That was a little hard to swallow, “Is it true?”

“We’ve only had one war, and you’ve fought in it—against the heartless, nobodies, and Organization. Ironically, Ansem the Wise wasn’t declared our ruler until two days after Christmas,” replied Leon.

Sora sighed, “Okay, I’ll have to speed it up a bit, but I know this person! She’s more than willing to help out in any way, and she’s not some novice when it comes to the needs of the people, or what evils the darkness is capable of! Please, Leon, lend me a ship!”

Leon covered his head with his hand, “Sora, I don’t have a ship to lend! Even if I did, I can’t just let you take Kairi like this! How do I know you won’t just run away with her?!”

    “But-” Sora started.

    “You can borrow my ship.”

Sora and Leon turned to see King Mickey standing a few feet away from them, under the shadow of a tree. Mickey walked towards them, massaging his shoulder.

“Next time, Riku’s the reindeer and I’m the elf,” said Mickey, “Sora, go ahead and use my ship,” he tossed Sora a remote, “It’s in orbit right now, so make sure you, Kairi, and Riku are holding hands when you press the big red button. Riku knows how to fly the ship, so he should be able to get you Traverse Town through the warp gummi.”

Sora smiled, “Thank you, Your Majesty!” Sora started running away, but then stopped. He turned around to face the two of them again, and yelled, “I almost forgot! Can you ask Merlin to contact the Fairy Godmother? The one who helped Cinderella? Ask her to meet me at Traverse Town also, please!” He turned around and started running again.

Leon tried to yell at Sora to come back, but the King cut him off, “You know, Leon, you really should trust in him more.”

Leon turned towards the King, angry. “Do you have any idea what you’ve just done?”

While still watching Sora run away, “I do. You don’t seem to have realized it, though.”

“Wha?” said Leon. What could he have missed?

King Mickey took a deep breath, sighed, and faced Leon, his head cocked, an eyebrow raised, and a kind smile on his face.

“Leon, let’s be honest here. You’re not doing this just to restore your home. You’re still seeking redemption for running away when the heartless first invaded.”

The way Leon looked, you’d have thought the King punched him in the face rather than say a few words. “What in the world makes you think I’m doing this for myself?” Leon said.

“Why are you still calling yourself ‘Leon’ if that’s not the case?” said Mickey.

If one thought it wasn’t possible for Leon to look more shocked, that person was wrong. How could anyone think such things? And yet…it was probably closer to the truth than Leon cared to admit. He looked down at the ground.

“…When the heartless first appeared and attacked, I was terrified. I knew how to fight, but I just couldn’t move until someone tapped me on the shoulder. And when that happened, the only thing that came to mind was run! Not look for help, not warn anyone that monsters were attacking people, just ‘run and save yourself’.”

“You were eight years old!” said the King, “Besides, did you look around? You weren’t exactly the only scared out of his wits! Grown men were stumbling just to get away from them!”

“That’s no excuse! I could have done something back then! I should have-”

    “Leon,”

Leon looked down at the small king. He had a look on his face Leon had never seen before. It was a mixture of serious anger, but at the same time there was an odd kind of sincerity emitting from him. How such a small creature could have so much knowledge, he wondered.

“You can dwell on the past all you want. Nothing can change it. What you have done now, however,” said the King, “has more than redeemed you: You’ve helped to lead the Restoration Committee in bringing back your home, and you helped train the worlds’ greatest heroes in fighting and defeating an evil that surely would’ve doomed all. If you still feel like you need to redeem yourself, I can’t stop you.” The King turned around and started walking back towards the party, “Just make sure you don’t make other innocents suffer because of it, okay? You’re a good person. Everyone can see you’re trying to help, but don’t help so much it actually harms. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a message to deliver to Merlin.” The King walked back to the party, leaving a very confused and troubled Leon behind…

“Kairi!” Sora called as he spotted her on a bench, not far from the fountain they had their talk.

Kairi looked up as Sora and Riku ran towards her. She didn’t need this right now. She was just too drained.

“Sora-” she started, but Riku cut her off, “Sorry, Kairi, we don’t have time to talk right now. We’ll explain along the way,” He grabbed Sora and Kairi’s hands, “Okay, we’re ready.” Sora pushed the big red button on the remote the King gave him. A beam of light came down, hit the three of them, and just as suddenly as the light hit them, they were onboard the King’s gummi ship.

Kairi looked around in wonder, while Sora whistled, “Nice. I guess being the king of a world has its percs.”

Riku sat behind the helm, “From what I’ve seen, it does have its advantages. Where did you say we were heading again?”

“We’re going to Traverse Town,” said Sora. Kairi stared, “Why are we going to-?”

“If I allow it that is,” said a voice from the speaker.

Riku pressed a button on the control panel, “Is that you Leon?” Sora rolled his eyes, “Aw, man! Leon, we’ve been over this! You can’t stop us from here, so don’t try and talk us out of it!”

“You’re wrong there, Sora,” Leon buzzed, “The King’s ship is actually apart of our computer network. It has been ever since we’ve restored Ansem’s computer, so I have the power to send you back here, on Radiant Garden, if I deem it necessary.”

Sora’s eyes widened, “Leon, you can’t be serious! This is our last chance at this, and you’re not even going to let us try?! Seriously, I thought you were our friend!”

“Oh, I never said I was going to force you three back onto the world right now, I’m saying that you’re not going to get very far unless I give you the green. Which I’m doing, by the way,” said a rather smug Leon.

Sora blinked, “Wha?” Riku grinned, “Starting engines, and loading warp gummi data. Stand by.”

“I will say this much though,” said Leon, “I can only give you until noon tomorrow. It takes six hours to get everything prepared and ready, and then we have to work on certain arrangements. If you guys aren’t back in Radiant Garden’s orbit by then, I’m pressing the override button and warping you all back here myself. Before I forget, the King delivered your message. Fairy Godmother should be waiting for you just inside Traverse Town’s main gate.”

    Sora smiled, “Thanks, Leon.”

“Just make sure you guys succeed. Leon out.” Leon said. Riku flipped a few switches, and said “Alright, everyone sit down and strap on your seatbelts, we’re leaving in 3, 2, 1, ignition!”

Just before Riku pressed the pressed the ignition button, a very angry Kairi yelled, “Will somebody please explain to me what’s going on here?!”

A roar of the rockets, and sudden emergence of a worm hole never gave the chance to answer her question.
