Kingdom Hearts II Sora v.s Roxas

That cutscene where Sora fights Roxas, how is that possible? Roxas and Sora merged at the begining of the game.

 

In KH2 final mix xemnas explains that axels death triggerd it. As he puts it, axels "weakness", how he calls his craving to have emotion, touched soras heart and awakend what remained of roxas

 

Although Roxas and Sora merged at the beginning of the game, they were still separate entities, with separate thoughts. This is why Sora continues to show Roxas-like qualities (crying when leaving Twilight Town, or changing when holding the crystal up to the light). When Axel sacrifices himself in order to save Sora and through him Roxas, Roxas becomes affected, and is able to come back out and show himself (though only to Sora). At the end, after they "beat" Xemnas the first time, is when Roxas truly becomes one with Sora.

 

Only Sora could see him tho right?
So it was pretty much a battle inside his head :/

 

Since Sora and Roxas were merged, Sora was actually teleported to the Station of Awakening like Roxas was when he had to go up against Twilight Thorn. So it was more like a control struggle of who would exist.

 

Well im going to have to agree with Lord Knight Xiron, they were still two completely different entities. I guess it's kinda the same as when Kairi and Namine where running together.. Namine started to go all fizzy like (i won't say fade coz thats not what happens)

 

They were two entities fighting over the superiourity of Sora's heart and body.

If Sora lost that battle, Sora would have turned into Roxas, and probably taken out Donald and Goofy.

 

Wow. Scary.

Sora and Roxas, as others said, were still being merged and it was not a complete thing until at the end of KH2 where you see them rejoin again. Then Roxas's spirit is more at peace.

During the fight with Roxas and Sora, Sora does go out cold and the fight is mental. However, Roxas did bring Samurai Nobodies, which were linked to him, which if you notice, held back Donald and Goofy from doing anything to Sora. It is after that, Roxas loses and thus the Nobodies are gone and Donald and Goofy can get to Sora. So yeah, it was all done within Sora's mind.
