Sora: The Original Keyblade Hipster

I could see Sora, Riku, Aqua, Ven, Terra, Master Eraqus, and Xehanort having one, because they are important. Mickey even had one that he looked for to close the door.

Kairi and Lea, lolno. They have no real reason to have one, other than to be "important" characters.

 

Even Kairi I can see. It's a stretch, but at least we can connect the dots. When Lea got one it was a total WTF moment. I'm sure that will all come into play later and we'll understand more, but right now....

 

Actually, DDD does the opposite. They take great pains to hammer in the 'ordinary, dull boy' aspect.

I didn't find Lea to be that much of a stretch. He completes the elemental cycle (Earth, Wind, Water, Fire) and he likely has one of the strongest hearts in the organization seeing as his heart returned to his nobody so quickly. My only concern is that I don't remember him going through a passing of power, though he's met so many keybladers he easily could have without me thinking much of it at the time, and he also may have undergone it from Mickey or Yen-Sid when Lea requested it in DDD

Thus making him special in the context. It is an odd way about it but he is the ordinary one playing his hand among those that were chosen thus making him stand out from the pack.

 

But he wasn't even chosen. He was just the next best thing.
Making a big deal about Sora's normalcy is supposed to help ease a self insert fantasy. Some ordinary boy got the keyblade, so can you! kind of thing.
It's kinda a shame, too, because Sora was a fairly interesting protagonist in KH1

 

You make it sound like he isn't interesting or still the protagonist. Yes, we find out that he was the essentially the backup, but as a result of that he's changed into the character we see now. He is still the primary protagonist and the 'hero' in this story, right?
