Kingdom Hearts II Sora or Mickey

This really about says it all. I don't see how Riku was so -mean- to Sora as others mention except when he started falling into Darkness which well, if Sora were a bit more observant and told Donald to put a sock in it, Riku probably wouldn't have gone to Darkness in the first place and maybe the story would have been different. Riku teased Sora some on DI but it was all not meant for harm in any way. Riku also apparently trained a lot of those kids etc. He was a good kid that had a bit of an ego, but eh, I can't see him as being that bad at all. He never was intentionally malicious there and even apologizes to Sora if he wins or loses the race saying he was joking about the Paopu Fruit thing, and he also is humble enough to just shrug if he loses the fight, and doesn't hop around like Sora does if he wins. In some ways he seemed pretty humble despite the serious talent he obviously had. Sora and Riku were competitive but it was never anything bad. The Darkness that was corrupting Riku later made him feel and say worse things than he truly would have felt had Maleficent not opened his Heart to that power, and keep in mind the only reason he did this was to find Kairi and then try to save her. Had Sora actually figured out Kairi's Heart was within him, well, Riku wouldn't have been so against him for dawdling and not taking things serious while palling around with two others. He wouldn't have been so desperate, so really in the case of KH1, sadly 'Hindsight is 20/20" goes on for Riku and Sora throughout the whole thing. Both had things to regret and think on.

I think King Mickey is the guiding force, as mentioned above and someone Riku can admire and place some amount of trust and confidence in. It doesn't seem that Riku had someone like that before and may even have been at odds with parents in some ways. With how Riku acts about being afraid to lose his friends if he's not 'needed' it suggested to me possibly he comes from a broken home of some sort. So, it seems rather clear to me that Sora is his best bud and they had been friends for several years which made them close like brothers while King Mickey is more that person Riku has a ton of admiration for.

I'd say Riku was better friends wth Sora because they were childhood friends and had each others back when they were in tough situations in Kingdom Hearts 2. Plus, Riku and Sora had met before King Mickey even came into the picture (Note: The cutscene in KH1 at Monstro before Sora wakes up from his dream).
