Kingdom Hearts II Sora not remembering Sephiroth

I was just replaying Kh2Fm and I realized that Sora didn't remember Sephiroth yet during the Roxas tutorial he/it shows you the Xemnas fight.

Now why would Sora remember the Xemnas fight and not the sephiroth fight.
I know Sephiroth wasn't in the japanese version of kh1 but he was in kh1fm and thats where Xemnas fight was.

 

I've been wondering that too. I thought that maybe he forgot about it when he entered castle oblivion.

I thought about it too. My only guess is that in KH1, the Sephiroth battle isn't canon, whereas the Xemnas battle is canon.

 

Yeah, there really wasn't a story/meaning behind the Sephiroth battle, but the Xemnas battle actually had something to do with the storyline.​

 

yeah he didnt remember the ice titan fight either so i think that is just how nomura wanted it.

 

It never says that Sora doesn't remember Sepheroth (unless it does in the FM). sora just sees him and they fight but never does it specifically say that he doesn't remember their first meeting. Regardless, the sepheroth battle is never required so it doesn't really make sense for sora to make a big deal about sepheroth in game 2 if people havve not played against him in the first game/

 

Actually, there is something. Cloud describes Sephiroth for Sora. "Ling silver hair, carries a long sword".
Between you and me, if I were to fight Sephiroth in real life, and someone mentions later a "long sword", my first thought would be Sephiroth.

However, Sephiroth didn't introduce himself in his battle in KH1. More possibilities arise.

What proves that he doesn't? Same for Phantom.

Technically however, he did defeat Kurt Zisa. In KH1FM, Sora learns Zantetsuken by defeating him, and he can also use Zantetsuken in KH2FM. It's complicated, but it makes sense.

 

Yeah, but in KH2 when he sees him he says "Are you Sephiroth?" or something like that.

 

Well, as said, Sora didn't know Sephiroth's name until Cloud told it to them. And who knows, maybe Sora did remember who Sephiroth is, he just didn't say it out loud. And one more thing if you were to sleep for a year, would you remember a random guy who you met in a tournament who didn't show any importance to your quest?

 

Yeah I would remember a 2m tall guy with silver hair carrying a 2m long sword.

 

Well, would you say it out loud that you briefly met him a long time ago? Sora's not that dumb.

I don't call a one-on-one duel with the "greatest swordman of all time" (from Jiminy's Journal) a "brief encounter". Especially after you learn who he is and how evil he is.

 

Of course I would! Who wouldn't?

 

And when is that told again? There are things in the Journal that aren't clearly explained ingame.


But I believe that Sora just kept him mouth shut about it when Cloud told him about Sephiroth. He did remember him, he just didn't say it out loud.

I think it's because Sephiroth has nothing to do with the actual story or anything, so he's just a reoccurring, fun boss battle to do so you can brag to your friends about it. :P

 

It's because you didn't have to fight Sephiroth in KH1. he was just an optional boss you could fight multiple times.

 

It's because he was no better than a one-time heartless in KH1. Also while you or I would remember a grey-haired, one-winged swordsman with an infinitely long sword, for Sora, it's a relatively ordinary occurence.
