*Waits for the second slim PS2 to come out* I can't wait to get a PS3...still I wonder when more people will start buying PS3's (probably when it loses another 20-50 dollars in price). Hopefully Sony will have good PS3 exclusives coming out this year to kick Halo's :censor2: Another good thing going for the PS3 is free online...haha poor Xbox gamers (although they still get achievement points for stuff).

I'm thinking of getting a PSP but I am unsure if it is worth purchasing.

Can you tell me if it is a console that is worth the money or is it just a Playstation as a handheld console?

oh i have one more question about the PLaystation 3. does it play PS1 games as well (and have some way of saving) becuz i would rather have one universal gaming system rather than having to hang onto my PS2 as well (which i might do anyways if i want to play my imported PS2 games).

Nope. As of right now it cant. And if they figure out how to, it'll probably be the same situation as the PSP where you need to downgrade your system.

And Evilman, It can save the PS1 games too. Its able to create internal memory cards for both the PS1 and PS2. There's also an adapter you can buy if you want to transfer your data from your own memory cards.

yes PS1 games are compatible (depending on which model you get, same for ps2 games)
you can create virtual memory cards (as many as you want) to save the games

and you can play imported and back up copies of PS1 and PS2 games with swap magic and breaker pro, but the process of getting it to work is very annoying (you have to open the system up)

i recommend you to get a 60gig model if you can find one ;D

the only emulator avalible running in linux (that im aware of) is a SNES emulator
as of right now till hackers can open the processor up thats about as far as well get =/

It's cheaper and it costs less to install the software.

The reason the 40GB model is able to be cheaper is because they removed PS2 game compatibility, the expense of the PS3's hardware wouldn't allow for it to have a legitimate price cut to that price-range, so to make it possible to compete during the holidays, Sony removed hardware to make the 40GB model's price possible

Once the general price of the PS3's parts go down, the 40GB will be completely phased out like past models of the PS3, once that happens a new model will be introduced because Sony won't have to sacrifice BC to be in the $400 price range anymore, but for now the cheap model of the PS3 has to be the one that skimps out on BC so that a "cheap" model of the PS3 can even exist =\

The 80GB is the only model out right now besides the aforementioned PS2-less 40GB, so if now is the time you feel like getting a PS3, then yeah the 80GB would be the way to go (if you've got $500).

If you can wait a bit, June 12th sees the release of the MGS4 Bundle PS3, which is basically the exact same thing as the 80GB, only it comes packaged with MGS4, and is in a limited edition color.
