As of late I've been listening to some music that has really given me some random concepts for drawings. I'll be making a series [short or long, I don't know yet] of these sketches from now till whenever. Here's the first one. I already have ideas about a few others but I haven't started them yet.

    Reference

Criticism, suggestions, etc. are welcome. The hair is kind of anti-grav...yeah, I should probably fix that. At one point I was going somewhere with it, but I don't really know what I was going to do with it in the end. X3 Borderline censorship FTW-

Also, this is an open thread so feel free to post music inspired drawings of your own~

Glaah!! Music is the biggest source of inspiration in my life ~ I actually could not draw without it <_> I do this sort of thing quite often - like right now I'm also working on a side project based on the song 'Girls' by the Proidgy. It's gonna be all...ASFR, like the great Hajime Sorayama's work! >D (but since school is lame and likes to eat our lives, I have little time to actually complete it at the moment, let alone anything else personal) Anyway your work~

I really love the pose - it's way sexy like that. I'll shamelessly admit I'm an adept for stuff like this, be it guys or girls. The hands and feet look kinda small though...I'm not sure if this proportion rule goes for anime but, our hands are roughly the same size as our face. I have no idea about the feet~ I do know they look small here. The length of her right shoulder is also much shorter than the left one too, try to even out the right side. (Awfully small chest too lol >_>)

I suppose you're gonna color this? If you make it look like your avie (I reckon you did it?) this piece of sexiness could look GLAMOROUS! =D

I wanted something that could be a little more revealing, but still covering [plus this is a worksafe forum :p] The hands and feet aren't a proportion style for animu stuff...it's a horrible tendency that I have. I always seem to draw baby hands with my stuff. The thing about the shoulder was, I knew by looking at it how immensely short it was in comparison, but I had somehow tricked myself into thinking it only looked this way because it was sitting lower. o.O Anyway, I adjusted sizes of hands and feet, evened out her shoulders [lol] and made her chest slightly larger to go with that shoulder. I'm not quite sure if you mean 'chest' by volume occupied in that area, or by bust size. You know, now that I see on my screen the shoulder is still too short...meh, I'll get to it later. I also made the face a tad more angular.

I most likely will download an inking program and bring this into Painter. Actually, my avatar is done by someone known as CyoCyo. For an example of my quicker painting style though, here. I'll probably spend more time coloring this one. :3 That image was a more or less boring portrait that I didn't care too much about.

Starting on next sketch as we speak. Will hopefully be up later tonight~

This one looks cool :3 Though I think the angle on her left foot is a little weird. Not much but I just noticed it.And it is a little to small in my opinion. It looked pretty much better after you fixed it a little, though I think StupidA meant the boobs should be larger to X3.
It's very creative the whole idea and you have to colour it then it would look awsome.
I like that she sits in a bowl :3.
And yes music is a wonderful inspiration when you draw, I don't think I would have managed without it.

    Wow.. That's hot! *sweatdrop*

I have no qualms about this drawing (maybe because I know nothing about art >_>)

I think it's fine the way it is. And as for the small chest.. People, you do know that not all girls are blessed with voluptuous curves, don't ya? I think she suits the small bust, since in most anime they exaggerate the breast sizes purely for fan service, considering how small their bodies are.

I must ask though, Alice. What type of music inspired this? Was it a song that sounded.. sexual? XD (forgive the cheeseness) Half-naked girl in a glass of wine(?) FTW!

    You deserve some reppage. +

Oh yeah, and I've sometimes been inspired by music also. But there's a slight problem with me.. I can't draw for s**t! Heh, not everyone has natural talent, unfortunately for me T_T

I know what you mean. I have no natural talent at art. Unless i work at it for like over a month. O.O
I would like to know too. What song were you listening too?

Click on the reference link in my post. It's there. The song was vocaless, but it had a Victorian kind of feel to it. It's titled 'Shanghai's tea party" Shanghai is a character from the Touhou game series, not to be confused with the city. At first she was supposed to be sitting in a teacup, but I wanted her lower body to be seen as well, so the teacup ended up being transperant glass. Usually european teacups are made out of milk glass or porcelain, but then you couldn't very well see her legs and such.

Well I'm sure anime has some sort of proportion rule, otherwise I wouldn't know how the animators do it.

I looked at your corrected image and eeek you still need to make the adjustments D: The left foot still looks awfully small and the right shoulder aint evened out yet, like you already mentioned.

Now that I'm properly analyzing it, try giving your character some 'volume'. What I mean is, you can't particularly tell the cloth is wrapping around her arm, or the lines to the panties are attached to her...well yeah. Try and bring that out more. Oh and, work on the wrinkles on the socks too, make them look more natural :3

(The chest part was a joke...>_> *was referring to bust-size*)

...There are programs that exist just for inking?

LOL Your colored drawing looks so much more different from this sketch - I mean the drawing level. I would've never guessed you were the author of them both *blinks* Anyway I'm all down still for the glamorous looking colored version.

That one looks so much better :3 In colours. I would never guessed that you had made them both to.
You are good at colouring, so much better than I'll ever be x3 Colour the one in the glass bowl and it will look stunningly much better ;3.
I actually like the hair that defys gravity, it gives the drawing some 'life'. But that is just my opinion.

Proportioning in anime style mostly depends on the artist, it varies from them. There is a general thing but when you compare anime like Simoun and NANA there's a very lucid difference.
I didn't plan on getting to into depth with this drawing since it's strictly lineart, and I usually save the depth for the painting stage. Yeah I know, the clothing lines aren't bunching very well, are they? XD I think I'm going to go Google socks...

Yeah, there are programs that simply digitally-ink drawings. My friend off 2chan made one called Out of the Inkwell, which is very good for creating lines that are the same width the whole way through. I don't think he has the software up for download anywhere yet though. There are some other private ones out there too. Programs like Adobe Illustrator come with features like Live Trace, but it doesn't work every well IMO. They tend to make the lines very flash-like [if you've ever seen a crappy flash you'll know what I mean].

The colored one was extremely easy because it required little to no anatomy. I didn't spend quite enough time on this drawing. About 4 hours if you actually timed it, but since I as stupid enough to do it in my technology corner I got distracted and was off and on doing random crap online and playing DOA4 at the same time.

/ic/ says a good coloring job increases quality up to %40. Not sure if it works for everyone, but it definitely works for me and Koba-kun.

I know but I was referring to your style, which looks like the stereotypical type.

Well I don't have a tablet, so I suppose it's easier for you to leave the details solely to digital coloring ~_~ As a base drawing, details for me are extremely important. I couldn't do anything digitally if my traditional wasn't pitch-perfect at first.

Lol I USE Flash so I think I have a vague idea of what you're talking about. Thanks for the details! I'll note it down in a corner somewhere in hopes of finally getting a tablet one day. :3

Good luck with fixing it up and stuff~~~

Yeah, it's a rather generic anime style. I think one of my problems with my earlier drawing is I tried to make her lanky. Lanky girls are not very good for me. ;_; I usually make my legs a lot more defined with much 'curiver' limbs and such. I'm working on the next right now and trying not to do the lanky thing again. ^^; While I should venture out with things I'm not familiar with, I think I'm going to try to get more practice before I attempt it.

For tablets Wacom is the best brand overall, but for cheap ones I've seen them as low as $40 for a 4x5 one. I have an Intous3 4x6, because I don't really need anything bigger. Wacoms are preferred because the pens are cordless and don't require batteries. Another ting about Wacom is you can buy pens seperately- which is something not all tablet makers do.

I'm not aware of what your budget is, but I highly suggest you go to CompUSA. Due to financial problems they're closing about %50 of their stores. Hopefully there will be one closing near you, because their prices are going to be megassa low. :3 I saw this adorable little notebook there. It was only $457 for an half widescreen display, 1.5 G Hz, 512MB memory, and 60 GB HDD. I really regret not buying it. Even though I'm not really sure what I would have used it for, it was a really cute computer. :3

Why would you wanna make her lanky to begin with?! Especially in a pose like that LOL XD I'd be glad to see your next drawing in a more curvier structure >_> It's good to perfectionnate a certain style I agree, but I have a personal preference of testing a whole load of different type of styles and techniques. :3 I think it's much funner that way.

CompUSA couldn't have dropped broke and flipped their stock half price at a more perfect time since I'm pretty low on money...it would've been pitch-perfect if I lived in the USA D: D: D:!!! DAMN YOU EUROPE AND YOUR PRICEY EVERYTHING

I really appreciate the info though, this gives me a great base for eventual tablet shopping. Ooh a Wacom sounds like my dream tablet...I'd be willing to spend a fortune for a really good one whenever I save up enough for it lol. For the moment I'll stay cheap - I'll stop by the nearest techi-shop and see if they have a Wacom just for the price, and for the others too. (if I can really find a tablet from only 40 bucks...)

I never make lanky girls. When I see a drawing of a lanky girl, it seems to give a more delicate feel to the whole image. I think I miserably failed at the lankiness though X3. My next sketch is like %90 done. Don't worry, I gave her some curves this time :p [you would not believe how much better it looks in my corner of style]. I would have had it done, but it involves a chain. I AM NEVER DRAWING ANYTHING WITH A CHAIN AGAIN. It takes like ten minutes for a nice one. I spent about seven hours on this one too. I did more shading and depth, because my pen totally gave out on me and it'll be awhile till I get to Best Buy. A friend of mine and I were going to go to Costco yesterday [which is right next to BB], but something came up. Yeah, it sounds weird that we were going to Costco for fun, but there's this really hot guy there who works there and is gay [Or so I have inferred after the incident where he presented positive comments on my jeans and shoes]. However, we are in denial of this supposed fact and try to flirt with him anyway. Yes, we are pathetic. XD

I'm so sorry you can't go to CompUSA. ;_; Oh, and I have to warn you, this next sketch is going to have really weird [yet correct according to mathematics and physics] perspective. Be prepared. You'll have to kind of let your eyes fixate on it to look right. :p

I think lanky girls fit better with dark (...haha, accidently wrote 'darky' at first) themes, but that's just a personal preference :x It sometimes looks good when it's done in a certain style, be it dark or up-beat. But baah yours wasn't THAT bad lol Don't be so hard on yourself.

90% = will be done within the next 20 minutes? =O it would be nice to see it now since I should be working on my exam at ze moment but I have -1000 inspiration - give me something to look up D<! Lol yes chains are a pain in the arse to draw from my memory...I also once wondered what sort of agonizing pain those animators go through to animate chains moving....ARGH...

Oh my GOSH I just realised....chains...curvy girls....I think I have my little idea of what you've drawn on your paper, nyarf nyarf nyaaaarf XD

(The guy could be metrosexual! D: It's becoming a really common thing for guys to rant on about clothes, apparently. I'm just saying what I hear!)

The next sketch is gonna have a really weird what? >_>

    Uuuuuupdate~

Okay, I'm about 2 1/2 hours past promised time, but considering some of the estimates for updates in CC for fanfics I think I did fairly well. :L

    Reference

Yet another IOSYS piece~ This is a fairly dark song with a bit of twinkle to it. I'm thinking giving her pure black eyes helped this somewhat. I wanted a moe girl, but the edge of the song as well, considering it's titled "Border of Death". I spent more timing with detail on this one, since I'm not going to be able to color anything for a while. Tried to clean it up pretty well, there are a few non erasable marks and such, but hence the term 'sketch'. :p

Okay, when you first see this the perspective might kind of shock you. Yeah, I know it looks really inaccurate, but according to my cousin Ricky with a blah blah lens at etcetera etcetera angle it's somewhat plausible. Just let your mind marinate in it for a bit, it will seem correct after a while. *snerk*

I have two versions: one shows better detail in the drawing, but the inverted one helps provoke the atmosphere of the song at a greater level [or so I'm portraying it to]. Yet again, I have managed to draw BABEH HANDS D: I think it kind of works with this perspective though...Her skirt is in fact, made of transperanty tutu lacy crap. For some unknown reason I felt there needed to be some *** in this picture. Well, I know Gohan won't complain at least~

And it's good to be home with my curves. :3

FULL VERSION YOU MUUUUUST VIEW. I'm posting the full because you can't really see the detail of the axe in the reduced one. [the axe is one of my favorite parts of this character]

(Good to be home with the curves indeed ;p)

LOL I noticed fat liah D< Left me all on my lonesome with nothing to look forward to. At first, I was gonna harrass you for not keeping up with your promise but then I saw your comment was gone...xD

The drawings are really well done - it looks MUCH nicer when you put details! You weren't kidding when you said this piece had a weird, exaggerated perspective ~ I do catch the drift, but I can't help but think she's bending waaay back lol While the aspect is *right*, the top half doesn't really seem to respect the perspective structure you set for the bottom half...it doesn't look enough like we're looking down on her, which is probably why it makes her look like she's bending so much. But whatever, it's a rule that I hate this sort of perspective (doing it, I mean) so seeing other people who have the courage to *attempt* it is always awe-inspiring. So congrats :3 I really do appreciate the drawing, it's really pretty <3 (*stares at the flawlessly drawn chains* D: Well the hard work paid off whuut) OH! - One more thing still - the hair looks like a wavy paper :/

I much prefer the inverted version myself, even though her eyes are a little scary...@__@

I can't complain about the arse-flashing, I'm just a horrible shameless perv. In fact, if I had a d!ck I would very well tap that >D

Awesome going Alice. A shame about not being able to color it though~ how about traditional?
