Well herrooo :3 Yeah, I haven't been on much. School has been eating my time up lately. I really missed KHV so I'm back and I like this section a lot, so I guess I found myself back here too! I've drawn some things while I was away. Not much no that I looked back at the time that's passed... but ohwell. So this one is something I drew for my friend, I got really lazy to edit and just added a tag/watermark/whatever. HAHA. I used markers for this c: Spoiler And these are sketches turned digital art. The first is an old sketch, I shared it here actually. I don't really like how it turned out really. But this was my first attempt in digitally colouring without a clean line art and stuff. The second and third are for my friends which explains: C2k11 which is really just Christmas 2011. I just draw pieces for them, nothing necessarily totally Christmas-y. Yeah. Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Sorry for the rather, big files. But spoilers help hehehe. Critique is much obliged. I don't know, part of me just settles for how these turned out but I wish I could do better. It's been bothering me lately so yeah~ Thank you for even having the time to check this out! n__n
Wow! Damn you are one heck of an artist. I could never do anything like that...I guess my talents lie in AMVs. If you want something to work on...maybe how light shines off of the hair or shadowing a little. That's all I can see for you. Again, very well done.
These are nice. The one I like the most is the one with just the female head. Do you have any real life drawings? Like people etc. I would be interested to see if you have work like that yeah. You been working on your hair technique? haha
Oh wow these are good! I love the personality that's expressed by the colors, also especially for the first sketch, the shading is really nice. I especially love the texture.
N'aww c: Thank you cloudrunner!! Yeah, I'm still trying to get lights and shadows right. I feel like they never go well D: But thanks so much! I'll definitely work on those c:< <-- game face Really?? x) Well that's good to know, I never really liked how that turned out much... but yay~ Hm, no, not quite. I don't think I'd ever do well realism... maybe I should try but I'm not too confident with it :c And hahaha, yes, I've been TRYING x) Thank youu!! n__n Yay!! Thank you so much!! n__n I favor my traditional works over digital ones D: x)
I like these a lot. The hair looks nice and I really like the eyes, I don't know what it is about them, but something intrigues me. I have one, not complaint, but rather suggestion, and that is to make the throat/neck a bit shorter. It looks a bit disproportional, but besides that, I really like them.
Aww thank you n____n I love eyes and I'm glad you think they look okay 8D hehehe Oh yes, necks. I've always had that problem of making them of giraffe-heritage or something. It just looks really odd to me sometimes... but sure! I'll give it a shot! Thank you so much c: Hm, okay then! I'll try it out someday! c: <3
Longass post incoming! Like Noroz said, they all have very long necks. Not that long necks are wrong (I see a lot of people doing necks that are tooo short), it's just that you don't quite seem to get how the neck is shaped and how it connects to the body. Just study them, and you'll get it eventually. You really should try, though. Understanding and being able to do realism makes it much easier to do more cartoony stuff, because then you understand the shapes that you are simplifying. Doing realism also helps a lot with proportions. Even very stylized/cartoony art-styles follow basic proportions: As for the drawings themselves, I do think you can spot most of these yourselves, but here goes anyways. The Peter Pan drawing is the strangest. The main two problems are his should and his arms. Look at his left shoulder. See how much it sticks out? He'd have one very strangely shaped upper body for that to be possible. His arms don't look like they have limbs, but rather look a bit like some weird, oversized noodles. In the third drawing, the head itself is OK, but the body is ratther stiff, what with the arms straight down the sides. Also looks a bit flat. How to avoid making your characters look flat is something you'll mostly have to work out for yourself, but a starting point is to try to avoid using straight lines as much as you can. For example, take a look at this drawing by Leonardo da Vinci: Even his long "tone-lines" are ever so slightly curved. Just keep in mind that straight = flat, while curved = volume. (For the most part, anyway...) The last one I kind of like, but the proportions are a bit odd, and she is a bit flat too. I am guessing you started out by drawing her head and then added her body? Because the head feels too big compared to the rest, and that's what usually happens when I start with one body part, instead of starting with the whole body. There's also a pretty long distance from her shoulders to her crotch. I barely know anything about coloring, so I don't have much criticism in that department, but I do have some praise. I like your choice of colors, they don't hurt the eyes, and they go together very well. Shading could be a bit better, but it's still OK. A lot of beginners usually end up doing "pillow-shading" where there seems to be no real light source, and everything looks kind of like some weird pillow. Here's an example: So with shading, you have the right idea. Just try to get a better understanding of the shapes, then you'll have an understanding of where and how to shade.
HI. First of I would like to start by thanking you endlessly. You really are one of the people who helped me out a lot regarding art. So, a huuuuuuuuge thanks to you. Like, legit. I'm definitely just going to keep challenging myself further. I'll give realism a shot, especially for body anatomy and proportions. I'll embrace my love for studying bones and biology and adapt that into art. As for the drawings, yes. Peter's arms are horrid. I have to keep reminding myself of the limbs and the bones and how the body really works. Actually as I look back at all I honestly go, "what was I even thinking?" Another huge thank you for the advice on the slightly curved lines because I felt like most of my drawings actually are super stiff and flat and i've always been trying to fix that but I never knew how I could. Now I can! So thank you so much, I'm going to start practicing that soon for sure. As for the shading, I think you're really spot on. I've been briefly studying on light sources and how they should be but that's only how they follow the subject generally and not the subject's actual shapes and stuff. So I'll be definitely practicing that again. Thanks so much for the included photos. I'm already learning from them. So again, thanks so much for that super-long-super-awesome post! It's helping me already and just whoa. THANK YOU SO MUCH LIKE YOU DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND IT. THANK YOU <333
