So let's get to the point.
I've noticed in the graphic art section that quite a few members like to post threads frequently, showcasing new works they've just finished and such, or maybe just old works that they never showed.
The problem, is the fact that so many people post threads for(usually) just one piece of work. And if a member wants to search some of their old work(which could or could not be in a thread a few pages back), they'll have to dig.
And then there are cases of a member posting a new thread simply for the fact that they've done a small edit to a piece of work(this usually happens with sigs and banners), Which is just unnecessary.
So I came up with the idea that members could post threads with all of their works of art, updating it as they go. So like a gallery, in a manner of speaking.
This would also help, and save time for people who want to see all artwork pieces in one thread, rather than having to search.(By the way, I'm suggesting this for all sections of the graphic art forum, not just traditional artwork).

So anyway. Don't pay this much heed, it's just a quick suggestion I thought of while browsing other forums.

Well there is a thing to subscribe to threads. That way you can always keep track of old threads and any new posts in there. And posting all their works in one thread or in many threads is up to the person. But most people prefer making a new thread for new works because when they just make one thread and bump it with new artwork, its ignored more often.

Better idea: Members that constantly make new threads, like on a regular basis, should have their own thread stickied, either on the main page for the graphics section or a subsection all its own, because it does get murky and that way, people would be able to keep tabs on their work as the thread would be updated.

Although this could be a problem since there are quite a few members that post their work, and that in itself could be messy.

Actually, I think this is a really good idea. I support this over stickies for special members and subscribing (BUT that's IMO). So yeah, yes from me. For all the reasons stated in MSUK's post.

Or people could just make less new threads and be more organized with their work.

I'm already doing this in the Creativity Corner where this happens as well (mostly with poems). The system works. To be honest I'm kind of surprised that there are few members doing this. I think it's be a good idea for the Graphic/Art section as well.

I have to say that i'm none too fond of the idea. People post new treads so that people will actually see their work. There are too many people that post their works in that section there would be pages of threads for galleries, therefore the ones created earlier would not be seen as much. If no one post comments in the tread, they can't bump it up with an update. It's a little unfair to some people that way.

Actually, if you are the maker of the thread, I think you are allowed to bump a thread/doublepost but only if there is something new to be added to the thread (I think it's for everywhere but maybe just Creative Corner).

i dont have the problem with losing me work here, because it is all on a single photobucket album anyhow. and also in one folder on my computer. if people just do even one of those things then none of the suggestions here are remotely needed...
and as far as new work goes, bumped threads are not a good way to show new work, as they are overlooked...

I'm against it because when more then one piece of work is posted in a thread, not every piece gets a comment and some gets ignored, like with the bumping thing crono said.

Actually, I think you can bump your own threads if you have something new to contribute. It's true for fanfics at least.

Making a whole new thread doesn't change that. Some threads get ignored all the same. At least in the writings section. I don't check Graphics/Art.

Also, when someone does decide to view your work and likes it, he can look for more of your stuff just by skimming your portfolio thread, rather than having to look for threads among other work. That way there is somewhat more chance that your older work doesn't end up lost and forgotten.

you can only bump up stories. so if this does happen the rules for the graphic art section would have to be modified.

Hmmm in all honesty I do like the idea of members having a thread where they keep all of their work.

The downside of that is that if a thread gets very long then people wont be inclined to read through it all to find the updates and the new work.

I personally would say no because it isn't always in the bests interests of the artist to post all their art in one thread.

However I rarely go in Art except for the photography section so I won't close this until I hear from more people it would directly affect.

    Not necessarily.
In most gallery threads, updates/new additions are added to the first post, under a heading, such as "New works" or such. The user would most likely bump the thread with something new, and then add it to the first post.

Either way, yeah. I agree with you on some level.

I don't see why that should be the case. They can always start reading/looking on the last page where they are bound to find their newer work.

I speak only for the main Graphic Art area in this post; I don't read through Traditional Art or Photography regularly. People post different threads for different works because they want specific critique on that piece and nothing else. We have the search feature for a reason. They can just search by the user they're looking for. You're wrong there. If someone edits a signature, or makes a new version, they edit their thread 99% of the time. We had that on the old forum and it was chaos. It was hard to find updates, it became unorganized, and people would critique on the works as a whole instead of on each individual work. It doesn't work well, ESPECIALLY when people have a lot of work to show off. Not to mention it'd be a nightmare for users with slow internet connections.

I agree with Misty on almost all of this, so probably not a good idea for the reasons she put above.

How is looking at who has posted in a thread relevent Shiki?

Anyways, I said I would keep this open until I heard from others, since it has died I am assuming that no-one else has anything to add.

Therefore I am deciding no, for the reasons Misty stated, and as she IS a graphics chick, then I will respect her opinions.

Graphic art itself is too big to try and organise like this, it does work well for Photography and Cocobeanz usually does a fantastic job of keeping an updated sticky of what is where, but for the section as a whole, I am going to say no at this time.
