New Spider-Man films leave the old ones in the dust despite flaws.

Yes, that image is a prime example of the mockery of the Spider-Man that was that series.

    Spider-man 2 was pretty exemplary.

im sorry i didnt mean to start this debate again i was just trying to make a pun.

But while we're here... I'm not going to go so far as to say the older films are completely bad, they adapt a certain era of Spider-Man and do it charmingly in certain aspects, but the people and relationships (i. e. the very foundation of Spider-Man) is, most of the time, so atrocious that the charm can do nothing to save the films.
The newer films aren't perfect by any means, but the people and relationships (i. e. the very foundation of Spider-Man) are so perfect that the flaws almost don't matter.
Imo nostalgia is the only thing that makes the older films worth visiting again, and if nostalgia is the only thing going for them, well... that doesn't make them good. 2 stands above the others as being good for its plot and villain, but it keeps the bad relationships from the other films so in that area its not that great. 3 is just awful, and 1 is formulaic without anything to set it apart. I'm trying to understand why this series is still being held up as good but I'm not finding any solid reasons.

I've constantly discussed why I find The Amazing Spider-Man to be a terrible film (and the sequel is just ok to me,) while the most people generally tell me are bad about the first two Spider-Man films are that "Tobey Maguire cries too much!," "Mary Jane was annoying!" and "the effects are so dated!"

To avoid making this a thing again:

Nostalgia doesn't it do it for me; the first two films are genuinely good. Even if the first is pretty formulaic, that's still more functional than the mess of plots the Amazing films had.

My problems with the original films have nothing to do with that. I hated the perversion of the nature of the story. The writing is infantilizing. Take the way Peter narrates his life and makes himself seem pathetic, then goes through his obsession with revenge, and so on. Everything is outright emphasized, there is no subtlety. The cleverness is gone. There is more focus on the moral of the story than anything. One of the things that threw me right from the get go was how they put Peter and Mary Jane in high school... At the age the actors were, it was impossible to buy that.

They have some charm, but I cannot take them seriously.[DOUBLEPOST=1404425374][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, the third of the series is easily the best. I'm getting the impression you disagree on that as well.

Ironically, the underlined is how I feel about Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2. I have no clue how you think the original two films "perverted the nature of the story," or think that the writing is not at least on the same level as the Amazing films...

Maybe we should just keep this in a different thread...

They were heavily stylized for a less critical audience. Especially kids. The new films got a lot wrong (especially pacing). Not defending them here. But they at least aimed for something a little less childish.

The older films are generally solid as stories go. Not a lot of holes or problems. But they are infantile and predictable. I reiterate the emphasis on the moral of the story and the narration. Narration deals a major blow because it breaks the fourth wall. There is a reason we don't break the fourth wall.

In summary, they did well for what they aimed for. They aimed for the wrong thing in my opinion.

I don't really think video game composers will ever become mainstream. How many people do you know who can name any movie composers? I know a couple of people who recognize Hans Zimmer's name and that's about it

Off the top of my head, Danny Elfman and John Williams. The problem with movies (and games) is that people are way more likely to associate a song with the complete project, rather than the individual who made it. Most people probably recognize the Batman and Star Wars themes, but are less likely to actually know who made them

I'm not sure. Like I said, the track list is in Japanese, but the rest of the booklet is in English. It has both the English and the Japanese of Melodies of Life. When I load the CD into my computer, the track listing is in English, not Japanese, although the same thing happened with my KH2 and LoZ:OoT OSTs.
