I'm wantin' to get a PS3 within the next wee while. I'm wonderin' what version is best. Please n' thankin' you.
60 gig it has full PS2 hardware in it (which means very very good backwards compatibility, if not all games are compatible) other versions = no PS2 support or runs PS2 games through emulation (emulation isn't always reliable, so the compatibility is far lower than that of the original hardware) so if you can find a 60 gig version, buy it
I would say, either get an 80 gb, or wait and get the new model, which is 160gb(I think) my preference would be 80gb though, its relatively cheap, and has everything the 160 has(aside from half the memory, but 80 gbs is still ALOT) and Carey, 80's DO have ps2 support
i know, but it runs it through emulation. perfect emulation of the PS2 is damn near impossible because of emulating multiple chips running in parallel on a single-core processor is quite complex. sony themselves have admitted getting the timing perfect in there emulator is frustrating. (thus lower compatibility and lags/low frame rate in games) Original hardware owns emulators ;o
ah, didnt realise it was emulation-based haha...I have a 40gb(upgraded HD to 360gb right now though, miught go bigger for the shits soon...)
I will keep my PS2 since it's been chipped. I like my imports. ;P So the backwards compatibility isn't much of an issue. Just wonderin' if there's any other difference between 'em than just the memory.
okay, now i know what kind of ps3 to tell my friend to get. :) same for me. xP ~Thanks for the info carey!
Also, as of a few months ago recent 80GB shipments of the PS3 have had their PS2 backwards compatibility removed. So as of right now, there isn't a PS3 model worth actually having in my opinion.
I have an 80gb Backwards Compatable PS3, and it works great. My opinion, it plays PS2 and PS1 games great (except Final Fantasy X xP)
Depends on how many things you're gonna use it for. 40 gb works pretty good if you're just gonna play a bunch of ps3 games. If you're going to get alot of stuff off the PSN, then you might wanna go a little bigger. Or get the 40 gb and buy your own hard drive if it gets full. The 80 gb has a bunch of SD slots and stuff if that matters. So yeah, not much difference other than size and a few slots.
they had more hardware in it, thus the price is higher and the fact it was newer back then sony obviously jacked up the price
I'd recommend a 60 but they stopped producing them, so get an 80 unfortunatly my 60 was a piece of crap that was a con (we got our cash back fully) but i ended up stuck with a 40
