I've always found Windows Movie Maker to suit my basic needs. :x But if you don't want to use that, you could give Wax a try.

No such thing, and WMM is considered the best free editor behind imovie (which you can only use with a mac). Use windows movie maker with Rehanfx.

I suggest Windows Movie Maker if you don't have Windows 7. Then go to the forum to download codecs and an .XML converter. You get tons of good effects, fonts, transitions, ect. I have tried this when I got windows 7 and it doesn't work for some odd reason. It works with older versions though.

mind telling me where there's a forum for Windows Live Movie Maker? I want more effects and stuff.

But yeah, Windows (Live) Movie Maker is probably one of the better programs to use for free. I can't really think of anything else. It's limiting, yes, but it's better than nothing

Yes, you can use WLMM but I didn't approve of it... Either I was just too impatient or it's very limited. Like only being able to add one effect. The effects are nice but I like to use multiple ones at a time.

you can add more than one effect. You just have to choose the Multiple Effects option.

As others have said, go with Windows Movie Maker.

It's pretty much really the only free one out there -- literally!
All other editing programs cost money.
