Avatar is so anime! look at the style! are you one of those people who believe that anime isnt anime unless it comes from japan? thats silly. is pizza not pizza because i made it in my kitchen and not in italy? how about pasta? tacos? haggis? curry? noodles? other ethnic food items? hey, what about kimonos? if i decide to sew one for my self, using fabric i bought from the fabric shop down the street, does that make it not a kimono, because i didnt get it from japan?

Avatar is American animated television series that aired on Nickelodeon. While it had a lot of influence from anime and Asian cultures, it's still technically isn't an anime, but an animated series. If you want to call it an "American Anime" that would probably suffice . It's the same with Code Lyoko, it was made in France so it isn't anime, but a french cartoon or animated series. Also you said "look at the style", just so you know there are anime in Japan that have the same style as the Beavis and Butthead cartoons but since they were made and aired in Japan, they are called anime. I wouldn't call Beavis and Butthead an anime.

Also your comparisons are irrelevant. If I watch an anime on my TV in America, it's still an anime. If I watch a cartoon in Japan, it's still a cartoon. But yes an anime has to be made in Japan to be considered an anime. The things you mentioned can be made anywhere, that's just where they originated from. Their names don't change. But hey, you can think what you want. Just sayin.

You have no idea how much I've tried to explain that to my friend. Or his friends, who are complete idiots about what anime really is
