Can you elaborate on what this will do? I don't quite understand what you're suggesting.

As alternatives, I put forward the suggestion of users subscribing to the Group and the suggestion of this plugin, which upgrades What's New to have the option to include groups.

Do you have a link to the "old" thread on this suggestion? I'm curious about something.

    Will consider looking into this.

I support.Since I'm always missing stuff in my group >>

But you can always just subscribe to a group discussion or a group its self.It somewhat works.

Here is the link to the old one.

It means that if someone posts in Voxli/makes a thread/whatever, you'd get a notification for it like you do for Pms and Vms and such.

I tend to subscribe to the groups... but I do like this idea.
It would help matters for sure.
And if it was only turned down due to server reasons before, it should most certainly be re-looked at I think. (Y)

So every time someone posts in a group, I get a notification about it? Can I personally turn it off?

This will sound mildly hypocritical, but I'm leaning towards being against this, for the sheer flood of notifications one could get. As such, I vote to search for other solutions before going ahead with this one.

That said, I'd be interested in trialling this for a while, then gathering opinions on it.

Indeed... It would be like getting a notification every time that someone posted in a set of threads. And you don't have many rules in groups, they get posted in a lot.

I didn't think of the notification 'floods' being a factor because I wasn't sure how active other groups were (considering most are dead)--in general and related the activity to that of VMs and PMs. For you, (P), I see how it could become a hassle considering the Voxli group, but other groups don't seem to be that active at all, so I didn't think the notification system would become annoying, so thank you for bringing that up. (And Kelly, too.)

I'm not so passionate about this that I'll fight for it if there's an alternative. I just want a way to get notified when someone posts in a group I'm apart of or created. I thought briefly that maybe making it automatic would encourage more activity, because I don't think very many people subscribes to groups and they're forgotten about, often...But if they do, and subscriptions provide the same service, only optional, then that'll do.

Honestly, I don't know what subscribing to a group does exactly to inform you so someone should elaborate on that, please. If it's the same as what it does for when you subscribe to a thread, than that should suffice. Meaning, it'd show you the thread that was posted in and who last posted in it, etc. I've never subscribed to a group before.

The group subscriptions permanently displays the title of the most recent post in the group on your UserCP.

Floods won't be a factor at the moment, but if it's implemented, it will undoubtedly boost activity, which will result in more notifications being send. It may be a mild thing though. A trial period would be good, IMO. Once we have some experience with it, we can make an informed decision.

(Adding it to What's New could also work, I guess.)

    I think it's a good idea.

The only things that would be negative are; 1.there may be way too many notifications if it would be like the vm/pms. Maybe something that says that there are at least one new reply or something. 2. RvR and Misty probably have a lot on their hands right now...

The only way that this is happening is only if the plugin that was posted earlier is installed.

And that's the general idea of this thread. To suggest that the plugin is installed.

As far as I know (directed towards what is originally being suggested here), there's no mod or option that lets you get notifications (like you do with pms, vms, etc.) when a group is posted in.

Yeah that's why I'm saying the plugin is the closest (and best) way to know if a group thing is updated.

That was made prior to the upgrades. Also, it was rejected because of the version being too low, not because of the server not being able to handle it. Furthermore, the idea that The Fuk put forward was never actually said to exist. The thing discussed (and rejected) in that thread was Darklink's suggestion of using Group Subscriptions. Now we have Group Subscriptions, because we upgraded.

Which plugin? It was initially thought that there was an option to enable this in vBulletin without requiring a plugin or anything. The only plugin in this thread was the one that I put forward as an alternative for increasing group activity by adding them to What's New?.

Yeah, Group subscriptions pretty much work in the same way as subscribing to normal threads.
They appear in your UserCP too. (I presume it would be similar to subscribing to a section?)
    Anyway yeah.
I think the subscription method does Suffice, providing people realise it can be used lol.
