I never use social groups anymore, but there is one I'll be using for a little bit, and I was wondering if there was I way to set it up so that you will get a notification that there's been a message posted on a social group that you belong to. If it's too much work for such a little problem, I understand.

I like the theory of this, but I doubt it would be a good thing. Becuase if you are a part of multiple social groups, you are going to be getting messages from each of them. Plus, I don't even think that vBulletin has a mod that allows that, but RvR would know more about it than I.

Well, maybe there would be some way to only get notified by certain social groups?

Newer versions of vBulletin have a subscribe feature. I don't remember when they added the feature, but I think it was in 3.8. I know 4.0 has it. The easiest way is to upgrade but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

spdude doesn't care enough to put us on a proper server, let alone upgrade vB. So sadly unless there's a super special secret way to do this that doesn't require upgrading, it won't be happening. Ever. .___.

You could modify the vB files, but it isn't really worth it....

    There isn't really another way.

Sadly, this won't happen for the reason Misty said. We have no power over that. If we upgrade ever, do ask again.

    social groups

I know this is probably unstoppable but I'm fed up of all the social groups dying on me! Is there anything you guys could do to stop people from forgetting to post on the social groups? I love useing them but HATE them dying.

I didn't mean to force them, I mean something like reminding them about the last time they posted or something.

The problem with social groups is that they're kinda in a dark corner of the site. And they aren't like threads, were they can be seen if they were updated and what not. If there would be a sort of notification to see when someone posts in the group, I think the problem would be fixed.

I think that there's notifications for when a thread in the social group is posted in, but I'm not too sure. Still social groups are very hidden.

You can subscribe to social groups now, so whenever there's an update it'll show up in your CP.
If you tell everyone that joins it to subscribe to it, you may be better off that way.

And yeah, it's not really our job to make sure that groups stay alive, similar to how it's not our job to keep threads alive.

    Group notifications?

This has been suggested before, but was shot down because we didn't have a proper server and didn't want the site to blow up.

If it's possible, since we've upgraded, can we enable social group notifications? A lot of the groups die out quick, but I think they might be easier to maintain if there were notifications instead of us having to check obsessively. xD

I'm not exactly sure what they are myself, but now that there's a new server, I'll support the suggestion, anyway. :3

I like this idea but then again, I don't like the idea of being in an active group and then getting attacked by notifications each time somebody makes a post in there. For example, the Voxli group. Can we get a notification each time somebody makes a new discussion or something? instead of each time somebody replies/posts? Meh, I'm no sure how everyone feels though. Good suggestion though adoptive Mother.

Support, to save the trouble of checking to find nothing, or not checking, expecting to find nothing, and missing important somethings.

Sounds good to me. Would be even better if the new group posts would show up along with the new posts.
