I actually don't think the Final Fantasy XII battle system is that bad.
And since I am currently playing it, I decided to post this thread.
    +Everyone is always bashing it.

I don't think it's the worst gameplay in the world, it seems as if they were trying to combine Kingdom Hearts and every other Final Fantasy.

It was weird at first...Since you have to wait a few seconds until each hit...Which happens in other games but in this one it is more annoying.

+The snakes that appear out of nowhere and attack you.

Other than that I didn't dislike it that much.
    Just the change that's all.

    What about everyone else?
Am I the only one that doesn't hate the game entirely?

I didn't enjoy the battles because they were boring. Set up Gambits, walk to enemies, have the AI do the rest. Other games, you do everything yourself.

I personally just thought it was too slow. There's nothing wrong with the concept, but anything that's not completely real-time bores me fairly quickly.

I didn't like it because it was so hard to look at and you really only needed to control one character most of the time because the AI did everything else. I mean who stands their with a sword in their hand against a T-Rex and waits until a blue arch tells you when you can hit. FF was slowish because it was turn based but when your having it without the spinning off into a battle system with backgrounds that seem like over expansions on the area you where previously in it just doesn't work. Lets hope they don't make similar mistakes with FFXIII's battle system, although to me it looks like a combo heavy version of FFXII's system.

The combat bored me. Although I found it fun to run around during battles. Mainly because I was like, "AHA! I CAN DODGE OF MY OWN FREE WILL!" although...it's more like staying out of reach. I didn't really like it too much though because if you're going to make a real time game, at least add some sort of dodge button or an actual block. >< The game got boring though...<<

I didn't think it was too bad. I know that every battle system does have its flaws and XII's wasn't the most perfect battle system but I thought it was at least different and made me experience a whole new take on the pace of a FF game. I guess I'm also one of the few in the world who actually kinda enjoyed this one.

Off-topic: Compared to XIII's though, it looks totally different in my opinion. The battles may even flow smoother than XII, I believe.

the combat system was what i liked about FF12. everything else about it i didn't like. it had very uninteresting characters and the plot itself was very hard to care about.

I also somewhat enjoyed it. Atleast, enough to try and get the extra espers and beat the optional bosses.

I can't really name what helped me stick with the game for a bit... maybe the Quickenings? -Shrug- It was playable, to me.
