i feel like i should watch avatar before watching this show
and omg, i used to be so against watching avatar because i just thought it was some show that got too much credit, but i've been babysitting my niece for the past few days and it's all she watches, and i've even forced her to watch avatar with me instead of my little pony
i am a terrible aunt, i know. but god this showwww. i need to watch it from start to finish but my niece refuses to let me watch the first episode. "no no, we'll start on some random episode and i'll tell you everything about it despite only being five but I KNOW THIS SHOW LIKE THE BACK OF MY HAND"

Don't worry about her not being real. Y'know, since even if she was, she'd never want to go out with you.

And lol @ people's reaction to Korra being called an anime. It basically is, it wants to be anime so bad it hurts.

I like to call the style American Anime. It's like anime, only the art and animation is not really good in comparison.
Also, who gives a sheit what you call it?

    Ladies and gentlemen
    I introduce you to...
    The Weeaboo

    I love anime
But this is by far the most ******ed thing i have ever read on this website
Western animation tends to always look better then Anime due to the fact that Western animation has larger production values
    gif related
    [IMG]

Hell the whole third season was filled beautiful animation, just look at the Azula vs Zuko fight of course there's always good animation in anime as well(Bones in particular is usually quite consistent) it is rarely consistent and is usually reserved for important episodes or in that videos case is an OVA or movie. Hence the reason why in anime characters talk without moving their faces unless the show has some top notch animation

One of the, if not the, most cliche weeaboos on this site just called me a weeaboo? Go back to your waifu, you pedophile.

And yes, both Avatar and Korra are obviously inspired mostly by anime. If you can't tell this from style, content and presentation, then you are dumb. No ifs or buts, you're just plain stupei.

    Um, what? No.
It may be a difference with LoK, not that I really care about it, but what I said was western animation for the most part has sub-par animation and art compared to the Japanese art style and animation.
A typical example of what I consider American Anime would be superhero shows and movies (animated ones)

I don't mind the animation as much, but the artstyle is horrendous in anything Americanized in comparison to Japanese, way too pointy.

    First and foremost.
Weeaboo = Someone who isn't Japanese who believes that Japanese culture is superior to Western country in every possible way no matter what.
I called you a weeaboo because your statement implied that anything with an ongoing plot and proportional character designs makes it an anime.
    So is Megas XLR
    And Boondocks
    And Sym Bionic Titan
    And Samurai Jack
    And Teen Titans
    They're all anime though right?
    Oh wait
Osamu Tezuka's first anime were largely inspired by the fairy tale like nature of Walt Disney.
Which would mean all anime is actually western cartoons.

Do you realize how ridiculous you sound right now?

    Alright then
Allow me to introduce you to Batman the Animated series, by far one of the best pieces of animation to this date

What horrendous artstyle compared to this
    [IMG]

You sound like one of those people who say that all anime are people with big eyes and purple hair in skirts.

Which would imply that I like anime like Avatar more than cartoons like Adventure Time, which is just utterly wrong. So your point is moot.

Hardly. Megas XLR does not have the style in any way. It might have robots, but it is very americanized, unlike the content of Avatar, which is not americanized in any way.

    Never heard of them.

Samurai Jack is very anime in content, but not at all in style. Samurai Jack has only got one, while Avatar has got both. There is a difference.

Extremely American show, do not see what you are talking about.

You're one of those kids, aren't you?

The difference is, that this Tezuka guy, is taking inspiration from an idea, a perspective. While whoever created Avatar took inspiration from artstyles and very asian content. This Tezuka guy, are his anime about princesses who act all woe me, until their prince saves them? And are they drawn in a Disney way? If not, then your arguement is invalid. Avatar has anime artstyle and it is about a monk who sets out to master the four elements. You do not get more anime and asian than that.

It is you who sounds ridiculous here, compas.

Too lazy to quote, and I have a final in a bit - Super common fallacy, Sato. Take one screenshot out of one anime, from one episode that looks ridiculous. And that episode was hilarious, by the way and compare it to some pretty good character designs. I never went into details, I said generally. And there is more to artstyle than character design.

Obviously, you are trying to deny this with showing only what you have seen, which of course makes sense, but there is no sense in keeping this up. I won't bother spending more time on you, as I have a final to study for.

    Real mature.

Aw come on guys, no need to fight.
Some anime is beautifully animated. Some is badly animated. Some anime has realistic proportions, some does not.
And exactly the same rules apply to western animation. Pointing out examples of each only goes to show how diverse the world of animation is, and you cannot generalise an entire genre by one or two examples from one or two series.

Here's the deal. Avatar is a western animation. It is based on Eastern animation styles and culture. Which in turn was inspired by Walt Disney 'Doe eyed' cartoon styles. You could say it's come around full circle, and continue to squabble, or we could just accept it's a great show and leave it at that.

    Uhhhhh
But the creator has gone on a lam and said that MegasXLR is insipred by Japanese mecha anime so you're wrong.
Once again, Gennedy has said that it's inspired off of anime like Ruroni Kenshin so your point is moot
IT'S LIKE YOU DIDN'T EVEN WATCH THE SHOW WITH AN INTRO SUNG BY TWO JAPANESE POP IDOLS AND EVEN HAD A JAPANESE VERSION OF THE INTRO THAT PLAYED EVERY NOW AND THEN

As are the rest that I've listed including Avatar. In Avatar's case it's taking asian themes such as Buddhist like philosophies, martial arts, language and designs. The art style is reminiscent of anime but anime has never had exclusive rights to "characters with non exaggeration proportions" as comics have been doing it for years and Disney films for even longer(other way around actually).
If this is what you think "Disney like" means then you are quite limited.
What the **** does this even me?
If something is drawn by Disney then it's drawn by Disney. There isn't a standard as to how you're suppose to draw a Disney cartoon.
Once again, anime does not have the rights to proportional characters. Stop uzing buzz phrases.
Replace master the four elements with "Shen gong woo" and you have Xioalin Showdown
By your logic anime can ONLY have asian themes to be anime and western cartoons can ONLY have western themes to be cartoons.

Then please enlighten me on how you judge your art style?
From what your posting you've only shown me assumptions that you've made whereas I've shown you THREE scenes that example high profile animation from both mediums.

Welp, seems like you are unable to comprehend what it is I am saying. Not being able to know the classic Disney artstyle, not being able to tell what the difference is between something having both presentation and content of an anime show, versus having just one of the two. If you can't tell the difference, then it's a waste of time talking to you.

It's a waste of time talking to people in general when somehow a thread over a cartoon is turned into some debate where insults are thrown here and there. It's pointless and moot to insult one another.

And I will kindly ask that you all cease and desist.

    On that note. I really want to watch more episodes of Korra, but I don't want to get hooked, yet I liked what I've seen so far ; ~ ;

That's because you're making stuff up based on general stereotypes that you've come across concerning animation in general.

    Nobody insulted anybody.
The only insult was the word paedophile being used

There was a lot more insulting language than that actually, and in fact the general tone of the conversation was very agressive. I'll find examples if you need them.

I have no problem with people discussing the artstyle or whatever of Korra: but when it gets heavy-handed and insulting, Chev and I have to put our collective foot down.
