Except what the school is doing is illegal...

My parents are not religious, and I never went to a religious school, so it's not like I have some super hate against religion. But I would be in the movement to remove the prayer. It's not because I'm an atheist, because I do believe in God. I just believe that there is a fine line between mixing school with religion, and this school crossed it.

I disagree entirely. If it's not a scripted prayed especially seeing as that is ambiguous to any god you choose.

Crossing the line would be saying some against another religion in my book. Honoring one, extremely popular, religion in the area? I see nothing wrong. We honor one country. We honor one type of currency. They're not the only ones in existence.

If they have time to go to a game, they have time to go to church. Or whatever place of worship that coincides with their religion. Still, this is all time that I feel could be better spent beating up Scientologists.

    Digi doesn't get mad.

Digi just hates when people say "I'm representing everyone's rights by oppressing them all equally!" and it's this hyper politically correct bullcrap is the reason public prayer is something people are embarassed to do, or the reason people are afraid to express any quality about themselves, their culture, or their religions.

I understand the reasoning behind doing away with public prayers at football games, because it technically only represents one religion. However, there have been prayers before almost all sporting events since we started having public sporting events in America. It's just something you do, like singing the National Anthem. You're taking a moment to pray for the safety of everyone at the game, regardless of it being religious it just seems comforting. It's not like you're making anyone pray, just like you don't make anyone take their hat off during the national anthem (although, you're not American if you don't).

I was reading a story about this earlier, and as stated before, a moment of silence for people to pray for the events safety or do whatever you want was implemented at a high-school in Tennessee. The community didn't really receive the news they weren't having a prayer before the game well, being a state in the Bible belt and all, but this could be a good solution. Whatever the case, doing away with it all entirely isn't the answer.

I didn't read all of this, but how on Earth does a prayer only represent one religion?

The last time I checked, the majority of world religions pray, and many to a supreme god or smaller gods/spirits, as well as prayer for self-meditation.

And I'm pretty sure taking your hat off during the National Anthem doesn't make you any more American, it just makes you more respectful.

That's the problem I will fight every day I exist. The right to freely express any beliefs or culture you have. The right to be you.

Yes, but most prayers before sporting events are comprised of: "AND WE THANK YOU DEAR LORD FOR THE DOGES, THE CHEVYS, THE FORDS, AND FOR MY SMOKING HOT WIFE."
Or something that is specifically thanking the God Christians believe in. That's the issue.

I have never heard a prayer start off that way, not even as a joke.

And the God Christians believe in is the same God as many other religions. Mostly western, but sometimes I think even the eastern religions believe in the same God, just alongside others or perhaps above others, but we're getting into my personal beliefs here.

Even in cultures classes you learn that the Christian God is the same as many. The only thing making Christianity what it is, is Jesus as the Messiah.

Not all Christians are as close-minded as you make them out to be.[DOUBLEPOST=1347598712][/DOUBLEPOST]
My personal views on Satanism could be offensive to those who support full freedom of religion.

However, Satanism has nothing to do with the main focus being disbelief or belief of a God, and is on an entirely different tier than the current discussion.

Religion and I don't get along....

I won't ever agree with your religion, but I'll fight for your right to believe what you want practice it however you want till long after they physically restrain me.
