That I bet in no way could be refuted ever by someone skilled enough to learn the game before typing an essay for a publication and gets proven to just have no skill.

No offense but that is a stupidly shallow reason to not buy a game. I'm surprised you bought Pokemon Y, considering Red isn't the main character, and team Rocket aren't the main villains.

If a games fun for you, great. I've slagged off soooo many games I don't like, but if you enjoy em, great, variety is the spice of life and all. Everyone's experiences and tastes are different.
That's what we should all take from this.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but what I'd add onto your statement is that people ought to try understanding (and maybe sharing) why they like some things, rather than "I dunno I just like it."

I've asked myself for years why I still love to play games from the Dynasty Warriors series, they look bad, play rigidly, the animations of movement is terrible and the gameplay can easily get repetitive. If you can tell me why I love it, I'm all ears.

And a lot of the time it's hard to tell why we like a game, and even harder for reviewers to give an accurate summary of what is to like and not, it's why we have so many bad reviewers out there. Think about Tetris, for example, what ways is it fun? I love Tetris but I'm basically trying to pack a suitcase with blocks. In what way is Farmville fun to play? I hate it, yet millions have loved and played it.

I agree we should ask ourselves why we like what we like, but I don't think it's ordinary or easily identified as many believe.

 

I'm not at all saying that its easy or ordinary, which is exactly why I want people to try it more often. Even if you have a rough idea of why you like or dislike something, you are learning about your tastes and your personal scale for quality. It might not be shared by others, but it's better than nothin'.
