    What else ?

That' s basically the whole point, apparently Nintendo isn' t aiming to jump to the next generation, they' re just getting up to date (Café will support HD graphics and have more or less the same capacities as an XBox 360). It' s actually third parties developers who asked for it, they complained that developing games for the Wii (given its poor capacities and controllers) wasn' t worth the trouble.
The HUGE catch is : what is Nintendo gonna do in 2014-2015 when both Sony and Microsoft actually jump to the next-gen ? The 3DS, which has more or less the same capacities as a PSP, at last, is gonna be in the exact same situation next year when the NGP finally comes out. I know the real fuel in this war is games, but Nintendo seems hellbent on launching outdated systems, it' s really getting on my nerves. Someone should really tell them that "who can do more can do less", not the other way around.

Isn't that basically what Nintendo is? Nintendo is, for all intents and purposes, a casual gaming company that focuses its attention on casual gaming customers. A casual gamer cares more for gameplay than the way things look, so Nintendo doesn't feel the need to waste time and money on a console with more power. Instead, they use it to create systems with innovative controls that have yet to be implemented into hardcore gameplay. Nintendo DS? First popular touchscreen handheld system. Wii? First system that utilized movement of the player from its inception. 3DS? First handheld to implement native 3D effects without the need for glasses. DSi and DSi XL? I'll admit that those were stupid attempts at extra cash, but all in all they focus setting new gameplay standards while other companies focus on new scenery porn standards. The result? A company that focuses more on "new" and less on "updated," only updating the hardware when it creates a profit for them or when a new standard is set and it doesn't waste money to implement that new standard.

I just hope that this new console will be able to play GameCube and Wii games. I never had a Wii and because of that I'm definitely getting this console so it'd be great if I could play games that I never got a chance to on this new console.

I have no doubt in my mind it's going to suck... They don't think they really need a new console, unless they're gonna add PS3/Xbox360 Graphics. The hardware may be powerful, but Ninento has never really gone for graphics anyway, which is why I now am a PS3/Xbox360 person =)

I will only get that if for some strange reason Square Enix loses it's mind and puts a game on there. It's over the top expensive, and we already have Xbox and PS3, which continue to satisfy (Except for the stupid PSN closed down) and Nintendo just got out the 3DS. I have a feeling this will disappoint.

    I just thought of this.

So since the controller is going to have a screen and buttons, this will essentially be a DS but the top screen is our T.V. and the bottom screen is going to be separate from the top.

I was thinking the controller was going to look like a normalish Wii controll just with the touch screen at the bottom. But then it's supposed to be 6"?

Which, again, is why you aren't their primary audience. Some people care more about innovative gameplay than they do about a realistic picture. Nintendo targets those people.

They haven' t always been like this, up until the Wii they always released systems more powerful than those already existing (the Nes was more powerful than the Master System, the Snes was more powerful than the Megadrive, the N64 was more powerful than the Playstation or the Saturn and the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2).
I don' t know how Nintendo advertised the N64 in the US, but I remember pretty well those "If you wanna cry next year, ask a 32 bits for Christmas" adds that Nintendo published in French magazines when they realized they weren' t able to release their " Ultra 64" (N64) as quickly as they had hoped.

On those adds you can read "Pour faire d' excellents jeux la vitesse et la puissance de calcul sont décisives", which means "Speedy and powerful processing capabilities are required to make excellent games". That sentence is signed by Shigeru Miyamoto himself.

As I already stated "who can do more can do less", not the other way around.
Sure, a good gameplay is better than scenery porn, but you know what' s even better ? Both, which they haven' t been able to do for a while now.

Other people only care for good gameplay and realize that "innovative" doesn' t necessarily mean "good".
I own both the Wii and the NDS, I' m honestly not impressed at all. Doing the same games over and over just changing the controls isn' t what I call "good" (I can' t stand the Wiimote, it sucks, just give us our controllers back).
What is Nintendo' s big kick-ass game for the 3DS again ? Oh right, Ocarina Of Time. In 3D. Hurray.

I'm not as sure at the moment as most of the people on here, the only thing I'm sure about is that I'll wait and see how it does when it comes out. I don't plan on shooting it down before it even has a chance to show what it can do.
