The thing is, WEEE won't be. We literally just talked about how it's not for people like us so we won't be buying it... BUT IT'S FOR TODDLERS.

andjustignorethis: "According to Fils-Aime, the idea for the 2DS came from wanting to appeal to younger consumers, as the standard 3DS is aimed at players age seven and up."

Critical thinking skills are quite the delight. It almost makes it so you don't end up as one of those people criticizing stuff for sale in Toys R Us.

But seriously, that part of the ad screams AND MOM AND DAD CAN ENJOY IT TOO! The ad is clearly aimed for parents. I mean, it's showing a kid acting all responsible and everything with it.

I actually kind of like the design. It reminds me of the original Game Boy Advance. My only complaints are that the buttons are placed kind of badly and that it would have been way better call it "3DS Lite," since "2DS" sounds like a name for one of those Chinese ripoffs. Seriously, what were they thinking with that button placement?

Jesus Christ man, sorry for not doing my research. thanks for making me feel like i should go kill myself over making fun of a kids toy, too

Anyway, I'm not criticizing the toy, it's more along the lines of me already seeing plenty of littler kids playing on their 3DS' just fine, so I don't find what Nintendo think they did wrong to approach that target.

I honestly think that if you think you can't defend it or think it's stupid, you just need to chill and do your research about how it is for kids. LITERALLY.

Plus there's the whole thing where people are too stupid to realize that:

    A) 3D is optional
    B) You can turn it off.

It makes me think that there were too many complaints about those things. But, seriously? People need to read instructions.

Plus, I don't see this as bad. The shape and button placement is hella awk, but otherwise... It's for kids. lol

Now imagine how I feel being the guy knowing it's a kids' toy and full grown adults are making fun of it.

Eh, I could really see some could concerned parents buying it so their kids don't have the 3D to worry about. Maybe some two-three year olds that way they won't have to worry about really breaking it in two. I'm really not defending people finding it worth it to buy it or not, I'm just pointing out how ******y it is that every one just assaulted a kid's toy because Nintendo. =\

If anything I made fun of, I admit I chuckled, what it being called 2DS and all.

But there will always be the overly concerned parents finding and nit-picking out any obvious and subtle problems with basically any toy nowadays and pleading/forcing companies to make safer/friendlier versions.

While I do not have much to say about the aesthetics or internal mechanics, I can understand why Nintendo would want to aim at an audience younger than seven with a handheld like such (taking into account what James posted regarding the audience). Acknowledging the 3DS' constraints by virtue of its design -- the 3D and the clamshell -- is understandable when one realizes that the intention for the 2DS is indeed because things might be too complicated for younger ones and the like. Therefore, targeting the below-seven age with a handheld taking influence of simplicity from the Game Boy era makes sense when Nintendo's success has partly been built on young children in the past. Did many of you play something on a Game Boy when fairly young?

Nintendo is just trying to cover their bases. I am fine with my 3DS, however.

This is real? It's actually a thing?

(First reaction upon seeing the pic, I have since read the thread fully and I'm still not really sure what to make of it. It seemed silly at first but aimed at kids, it makes a little more sense. Still not totally convinced.)

Ultimately I don't really mind the 2DS. Probably not gonna buy it because over the age of poopin' the diaper and also rather like the flip part of the 3DS. I do think the design's a bit lackluster though (it looks like a Gameboy merged with the 3DS). But whatever people like in the end.

I do wonder what kind of protective casing they're gonna put out for it, though. It looks pretty easy to mess up one of the screens. :s
