and he's got me in a Skype call and we're just chattin'

and he puts the phone down to do some maneuvering right cuz nigga's gotta focus on the road sometimes

While he's doing this, a Uhaul truck passes him at like 80 mph

(He's basically narrating this to me as it happens)

Jay's like "Man what a dick"

and then he sees a cop car ahead, making a u-turn

so he stops and lets the guy go by

and THIS NIGGA PULLS THE UHAUL OVER

We're both like SHIT SON YOU JUST GOT OWNED

    COPS 1 YOU 0

So that was a good laugh right

Story concluded nice anecdote to tell the buds over a beer

    Guess what motherfucker

    STORY'S NOT OVER

About 20 mins later this guy catches up

    and passes him again

and flips him off this time

(cuz it was his fault right what an asshole goin' slower than me)

    And THEN

    THIS GUY

    GETS PULLED OVER

    A G A I N

    BAITED

    OUTSMARTED

    2-0

    FLAWLESS VICTORY

    GET DUNKED FUCK NOOB

WE WERE LAUGHING SO HARD WE ALMOST LOST OUR VOICES

And that was our night thx for reading see u again soon

Is it legal to talk on the phone with a hands free set? I've never been sure. It does free your hands but you're still distracted... Not like it's illegal to drive with just one hand.

Nobody calls me tho so w/e

It' s not exactly legal in my country but it' s often overlooked (depends which cop you stumbled upon), at least for now. There are talks to make them illegal period, for the same reasons it' s forbidden to talk to a bus driver while he' s driving.

However passengers can still talk to you and cops have no way to check that, so ...

I don' t phone while I' m driving either, unless I' m lost or something (and even then I' ll stop the car if I can). Had too many accidents to taunt death more than I should.

I heard recently that a US state, don' t remember which one, wanted to pass legislation to fine those who call someone who' s driving. Genius.

I heard from multiple people that here in Virginia they passed a law on 7/1 that made it illegal to have a phone in your hand when driving at all regardless of the reason.

I have a phone in my hand 90% of the time I'm driving and I've never been pulled over so idk

This'll be important to you- someone came into my store saying that they were court ordered to get a hands free so they'd avoid future traffic tickets. I don't know about the country, but it's legal in our state

It's legal to use a hands free set.

I did this myself once only for the same reason as you -- just to see what it was like, not to try and be like the "cool kids." I was making plans with a friend and I tried it when all I had to text was "Okay." It started on a straight stretch, but got into little curves. I stayed in my lane, though, and I wouldn't have done it if I still had my old flip phone at the end.

I don't know how people can do it. I had to keep looking up every millisecond.

This story was almost as good as The Muffin Man's story of painting a bathroom.

I think it depends on the state, actually. Idk. I agree, you are still distracted, but I've driven while dipping fries in cheese sauce before so there are far worse things you can legally do :'D

Yeah, see, I've never understood that. You can be just as distracted when you're eating and drinking as when you're talking or texting, if not more so sometimes. Why make talking or texting and driving illegal, but not eating and drinking and driving illegal?

I think it's one of those things like smoking a cigarette while driving in Europe (at least, according to someone on here long ago).
It's not illegal, but if you're in an accident and were doing it when it happened, it's taken under consideration.

    Bingo.
I heard they don' t even have speed limits in Germany, but they' ll sure wonder how fast you were driving if you have an accident.

I suppose phones are emphasized on because of all the stuff they can do that require much more attention than drinking or smoking, like texting. Also, a phone call could distract you for several hours straight.

Convenience, mostly. Some people have to drive all day a lot, and you really can't expect them to pull over for lunch and dinner. That's the extreme example, but even on shorter drives it's a time-saver. But like others have said, if you get in a crash because you were trying to eat a burger, cops are probably gonna consider it.

The law's not absolute; it can be superseded where applicable, and things that aren't technically illegal can still count against you. They're just guidelines to aid in judgment. So each person figures out what they can and can't handle, and if too many people make a poor judgment call on something and it causes problems, a law's written up about it. Hence cell phones and driving.

Anyway, people talking on a phone can be more distracted and for longer. One of the major points I heard raised a while back was that, compared to talking to someone in the car with you, someone on the phone can't automatically see when you're in a dangerous situation on the road - bad traffic, sharp turns, clustered intersections, what have you - and won't know to clam up so the driver can focus. Whereas when you're eating, you're in full control of the distraction, so you can set it aside if you're in a tight spot.

That's what my mom said. If you're talking to people in the car compared to someone on a cell phone, most of time, they're also paying attention.

As for tight spots, can't you set aside your cell phone, too? It may appear rude to the person on the other end, but you can.
