The following in the spoilers tag aren't actual spoilers, but instead audience observations.

And the crowd seemed more or less normal. Not too many neckbeards, a few Asian people speaking what I presumed was Japanese, a cute girl wearing a jeans jacket with the word "Madoka" spray-painted on it and many other people who didn't quite catch my attention.

And then there was one guy. A balding, middle-aged man with a beer-belly wearing a t-shirt tucked into a pair of dress pants. He sat with a woman much older than him, whom I assumed was his mother. He, unfortunately, struck me as the stereotypical hikikomori. Does it make me wrong to assume that? Does it make me wrong to think that he's maladjusted and assume that he lives at home with his mother?

Anyway, did anyone go out to see the movie in theatres? What did you guys think of the movie? Think there's possibility of another movie? Think this is gonna win an Oscar (it has been submitted, afterall)?

    Also, dat plot twist.

Hah, a Japanese animated movie winning an Osca--- oh.

But seriously, from what I've heard it was decent, and I think it's enough to warrant it a second movie seeing how popular it is.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this on Friday, if I can get a ride to the city that's showing the movie.

As for the Oscars, even if the movie is a beautiful masterpiece (which I hope it is because I am so in love with the series), I don't think that it's even going to get a nomination to be quite honest. The movies submitted are just those that are eligible to win the prize. The problem is that not everyone who is a part of the Academy watches every movie that is eligible, and they rarely care for foreign media. Miyazaki stands a chance because he is someone who has proven himself and has a clean record in Hollywood. But Rebellion is a film based off of a series, is not dubbed for the Academy, and they have a whole list of other movies to watch and send nominations for. It's sad to say that it seems like it has a slim chance at a nomination. From the way things seem to go with these things, it looks like Frozen will be on top (which I loved) because it's done by Disney.

You're confusing hikikomori with NEET. A hikikomori is a shut-in who feels compelled to stay inside, often because of some sort of fear or trauma regarding the outside. It's a pretty serious psychological condition that generally requires more treatment than just going to the movies.

I was a part of something greater, I don't know what, but I will always remember this: you are a demon Akemi Homura.

That's your problem not mine. If someone posts a spoiler here they could at least have the common goddamn courtesy to use the damn spoiler tags!

No, I'm agreeing with you. I said prior that I didn't see the film, and I'm trying to avoid as many spoilers as I can. I don't even know what the plot line is.

I am glad you found my lack of hair to be very fashionable!

Anyhow, the film was also playing in theatres today in Toronto here but unfortunately I was unable to attend. However, I believe there is another showing sometime in the coming weeks and I may be able to attend that with a few friends.

But...it is. Or rather, it did.

I go to school at Buffalo, NY and I got to see it. They also had one or two showings in the city last weekend, too. It's not a wide release, but only a few theaters in almost every state play it at selected times.
