I believe you, as the comments on sad episodes of SAO kept comparing it to Angel Beats.

I watched the first episode on netflix, but I'm debating on continuing it or not. It just seems like a strange anime

It's certainly very good, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Because the person who created the shadow program did this after being left behind by the person he loved. So he created that program to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

And when everyone passed on Otonashi became heartbroken being left behind by Kanade for quite a long time.

Yes but then in the end

everyone found each other, meaning that it was all okay in the end, and that if it were to happen again, they'd all meet again after they repeated the after life.

Or, that's my take on it, anyway.

I generally liked it but I'm not sure about the ending. It just doesn't make sense. I would go on but I don't want to spoil it since I did still find it to be a cool concept and such.

Technically that isn't wrong, though somewhat ambiguous. The experience is in the past so it "was great" but the anime is still in existence and likely hasn't changed so it "is great" as well.

The ambiguity is what I was commenting on.

I enjoyed Angel Beats, but it didn't make me ... emotional, really? Most people I know who watched it say it was super sad and whatnot...It's weird, I usually cry at the drop of a hat, but not with Angel Beats.

Only part that made me kind of feel sort of emotional was when Yui and Hinata were all like...well, you know. That whole disappearing scene with her backstory and his 'I'LL MARRY YOU'. But I felt that their relationship developed way too quickly. Like, the pacing was weird to me idk.
At the end I legitimately told myself "wow this is so sad" hoping to spark some sort of emotional within me, but I guess I just didn't care about Kanade at all, or her relationship with Otonashi. //terrible person

The whole thing was emotional for me. I'll admit I cried. The part that really set me off was . . .

The part where he gets everyone to sign there id's to donate there organs, and then they come in right after . . . it was just too sad.

That part got me too. I was balling halfway through.

Yeah, that scene got me to, mostly because

I know it sounds a bit pretentious to say, but my own medical history made me love that scene so much more. Watching it a second time, I really identified with Yui's non-stop energy. She's enjoying her new life because she is finally able to really live. It's something that she felt would never happen, and in a way, it really did. After knowing all that, I don't see her as some annoying side character, but someone who wants to enjoy every experiences of this new life. I saw a lot of myself in that; wanting to have a new life where you could go as crazy as you want and find someone who really cares about you, regardless of what kind of problems you have.
