I just don't like the show because everything I seen of it points to it being basically
    "tumblr: the cartoon".
It caters so much to tumblr's cancerous communities I just don't want anything to do with it.

I don't think it does? I get that Tumblr fandoms being obnoxious & how that stuff can extend to the show, but Steven Universe doesn't really cater to tumblr so much as tumblr tries to get ~ super deep ~ about it. There are definitely progressive themes in the show regarding feminism and stuff like consent and puberty (which is ****in' awesome), but the show itself doesn't "force" it onto you. It's very much targeted towards its primary demographic (kids), and a feel good show that anyone in their family could watch with them and enjoy.

I felt off put about it because of tumblr till a couple months ago when I sat down to watch it (the same is happening w/ Orange is the New Black lol), but you may find that the show is different from the way people are exaggerating it to be. Not to knock people analyzing things they watch (the show's creator actually encourages people to tear SU apart lol), but there are people who get way too obnoxious or borderline awful ( e.g. immediately saying the concept they used as a consent metaphor was for sexual assault even though it involved the child protagonist v: ), and I find it's much easier getting into things if you tune tumblr out and focus on your enjoyment of the thing.

yeah it's very easy to just.. not... go to a website.
almost 100% of my knowledge and perception of tumblr is informed by people outside of it. i don't like what i've heard, so i don't go to it and am therefore not bothered by it. i didn't even know this show was a thing on tumblr. i can see how something could come off gratuitously progressive, and this most certainly can be a problem if not handled delicately, but it's not immediately a negative. though i've not seen one second of the show and have no idea if this is actually a problem with it. but given that it's not something i've heard from like-minded people, i'm inclined to think it's not.

The only thing from Tumblr that bothers me about the show is how everyone there treats it like the second coming of Jesus. Other than that, not a big fan of the show's art style, which may seem like a trivial thing, but is the reason I don't see myself being able to sit through an episode (a similar issue I have with other animated shows I avoid despite a sheer amount of people saying how good they are).

I just stick to the meme side of tumblr, no judging there.

I think it's cool that they got both Estelle and Nicki Minaj to voice characters.

I loved that Estelle voiced Garnet, when she sang Stronger than You it made me so nostalgic for that song she did with Kanye, American Boy. :)

I have literally watched a few episodes while on holiday but didn't think much of it but it did seem very sweet. But a child's show that becomes popular in the adult world? Is that really a bad thing?

The latest episodes have loads of 'feel all warm and fuzzy' scenes, but it still manages to kick me repeatedly in the feels. Damn, I'm kinda surprised by it. Some of it just feels pretty heavy, and I don't mean the connections folk make with sexual assault and stuff. Seriously, a lot of it is heart wrenching when you keep it in context with the cartoon! ...I think I've become too emotionally invested with some of the characters.

To the comments who said they didn't like the animation style and whatnot, I get that. I thought it looked so stupid when I saw the advert for. Everything about it looked stupid. Like most of CN's stuff. And a lot of it is stupid, but it pretty deceptive that it works lol. I watched the first few episodes thinking it wasn't that bad; kinda cute, kinda funny. A few episodes more and it gets a bit better; Steven is less annoying, you learn more of the story. Then at some point, I honestly couldn't say when, I found myself hooked. (I've watched it twice now after getting my brother into it lol) I wouldn't say its the most amazing show ever but it certainly ticks a lot of the right boxes for me. But I can understand why folk wouldn't be interested in it.

    P.S

I am loving this new shows that doesn't treat kids like they were stupid, and use complex feelings or situations, and yet continues to be fun.

My problem with Steven universe, is that it takes many episodes to "pay off", it is not like adventure time that I loved since the first time I saw it, the lore is just starting to expand and such.. but it feels nice to watch it.

You'd be right if you weren't wrong, Fuzzy Plums.

    Though Garnet is fabulous!
