But the more I play, the more I'm realizing it's just a not-quite-as-good Final Fantasy 5
I think they played too hard into the old school card

What you then mean is that it's pretty much FF3 DS.

So since I beat FF6 for the first time two months ago I shouldn't get Bravely Default?

No...That's not even slightly accurate to the conversation.

Just wait 'til you get to the dungeon

    IT'S THE ARCHETYPE

WHICH FFV INVENTED AND NOBODY ELSE HAS EVER DONE

COME ON GUYS NOW YOU'RE DOING IT ON PURPOSE

That said I kinda think it's a better FFV overall :x but eh different strokes

It's actually pretty close to that, but it's got a much better story than FF3.

Plus, comparing it to another game might ruin the experience for you, since a lot of games are similar, so you should look at it as it's own thing

Been there, it LOOKS like an engine room, but it's the same as any other cave. I think that's a big factor for me. Specific locations are AMAZINGLY designed, but then you go into a dungeon and it's exactly the same as the last one, just maybe there's some lame traps. Sure, REALLY old RPGs were like that, but why can't they ape the much BETTER designs from stuff like FF5 and 6?

That's true, and it did start to grate on my nerves. I'd even turn off encounters 'til I got to the end, just to save time and get through quickly.

An option I often forget about, being that I generally run around with 150% battle rate on to grind job levels faster.

Get the Growth Egg. It's the Lv11 Accessory Shop item in Norende. Doubles your EXP/JP rate, cuts your cash flow entirely. Level before that you get the opposite, helps with grinding gold for the absurd cost.

From what I heard The 4 Heroes Of Light might be better overall. It doesn' t recycle its dungeons and remains old school hard up until the end, even if you grind. Has any of you played both ?

I have. 4H loses automatically for NOT LETTING YOU TARGET THINGS IN COMBAT. It actually picks your targets for you. Every single action you take is a hail mary.

Besides, BrD has some grind exploits but it's pretty tough if you're not willing to sit around for hours and hours and break the bank on the broken shit. Even the friend summons don't break it that much, since you can only use each one once per update and Net Friends never update. The only things you'll consistently have access to are things your actual friends are sending you, which will usually be stuff you can already do.

Not sure you realized this, it took me a while to figure it out, but each kind of weapon has its own target selection gambit. What I did was equip only swords to be able to stack physical attacks (on the most front-right target), and use magic and specials when I needed to focus on another ennemy.

It' still dumb beyond belief though, no arguing here.

Good to know, and maybe that'll convince me to give it another try - but yeah I cannot possibly enjoy it more than BrD's combat system

The shit you can do with four moves in a turn is just hilarious, perfectly suits my beatdown lifestyle ;*

i want to say nothing at all on the topic and say

turning encounters off or down is like the best thing ever and i love that you can do that because thats literally my least favorite thing about old rpgs like ff and star ocean

ALL I WANT TO DO IS CROSS THIS ****ING BRIDGE LEAVE ME ALONE

I've been grinding in Bravely Default and it's still pretty rock hard. Mostly because a lot of bosses require oddly specific setups
Like here's a minor example, there's a boss that has a permanent regen effect. He has 60,000 health, and regain 1200 each turn. You can remove regen with Dispel, but that requires a level 9 White Mage. Can CAN deal a lot more than 1200 damage in a turn if all your party members attack, HOWEVER, the other two attacks the boss has are one that poisons your entire party, and the other one deals damage equal to how much he has lost... so by the time you've chipped off 10,000 of his health that attack will be an instant KO no matter what. Now there's a boss you can fight before this that summons grunts, and if you spend time stealing from them you can get items that block poison, but otherwise the time you spend recovering from poison and KOs will PROBABLY lead to him regenning back more health than he lost.
So yeah, you'll pretty much NEED to run in with some poison protection, and a level 9 White Mage, or at the very least your in for a drawn out fight.
And I think I'm reaching the point where that's going to be EVERY boss ._.

Oh, i've only played 3 and 4 and they're both see enemies on screen types, much prefer than to random encounters. Tales of series 4 lyfe.
