Watched 4 old Godzilla movies(Space Godzilla, one involving Godzilla's son, another about Mecha-Godzilla, and another about King Ghidorah) before watching Godzilla 2014 about a week after it was released. I grew up watching Godzilla movies and...well I really loved this one. I don't understand most of the criticism towards it. Anybody who's ever watched any Godzilla movie ever knows Godzilla is only in it for about 10 minutes and all the other stuff is filler.

That being said, the way Godzilla kills those MUTOs are easily two of his best kills in the entire franchise. But the movie was pretty stupid with the fact that Godzilla killed them then proceeded NOT TO EAT THEM LIKE EVERYBODY SAID HE WOULD.

Man, it would be so awesome if after killing the MUTOs and everyone is cheering him Godzilla goes destroys the rest of the city. Cut to credits. Music.

    That said...

You have a ridiculous amount of dedication.

He's only in the movie for eighteen minutes, eating those things would take up like four when he could be smashing buildings instead. Priorities.

XD No. Godzilla would never do that. He'd travel to Japan first then tear Tokyo a new one. *cough* I loved Man of Steel though.

Maybe I'm the only person here who wants to see Godzilla gobble some monster meat. Wait. That didn't sound right. I take it back.

This would have been a better movie
(or not, I don't know. I haven't watched the new one)

At least Godzilla can't help it if he destroys a city while fighting a monster. Superman is deliberately throwing Zod into buildings. Godzilla is better savior than Supes.

I'm starting to feel like I'm the only person who still enjoyed 2014 Godzilla just fine but can nevertheless throw valid complaints at it as a film...

It's a kaiju movie; why do you expect them to be THAT scientifically accurate? I just gave a gist of a story that I'd find infinitely more enjoyable to watch than "soldier saves people and has no memorable lines until we get to see Godzilla do ****."

If you think Aaron Taylor-Johnson's bland storyline was actually engaging....well, your opinion, but I don't understand that defense.

    Well....

Nah, I think that'd be neat to see actually.

His side of the story wasn't bad...or good. As I said earlier, it's all just filler and buildup until Godzilla arrives. I dunno...I just don't feel like the filler portion of the Godzilla movies really need any defense. They all either fall into the categories of being forgettable or outright ridiculous(except the original I guess). The fact is, by the end of the movie we get to see Godzilla do some awesome monster murderizing.

I can suspend my disbelief for a great number of absurd things in the fiction, especially for older Godzilla films (Space Godzilla for example). But given the general tone they are going for the film that's just seems a little too much. Maybe in the 1998 film but here? I just can't see it.

Let's please not bring that horrible film back into memory...the best scene with that incarnation's monster was in Final Wars.

Final Wars wasn't all that great to be honest... But that scene was great, yes.

Speaking of that incarnation, the movie was bad, yes, but the cartoon it spawned was amazing.

It wasn't all that great, but it was so dumb and bombastic that I actually liked watching the parts involving humans. Who doesn't like psychic quasi-alien kung fu battles and a random American actor speaking English and using a katana?

    Agreed.

They actually ripped off a TON of elements from different movies. I am not making that up.

Zilla Jr. is what Zilla SHOULD of been.

Oh I know. Still a fun watch.

I don't remember Zilla Jr. Then again it's been a long time since I watched it, so specific storylines aren't clear in my memory.

Zilla Jr. was the "Godzilla" of the show. Granted he was offically "Godzilla Jr." back then before Toho renamed the '98 Godzilla to just plain Zilla in Final Wars. Essentially he was the baby Zilla at the end of the movie who thinks the human protagonist is its parent.
