So I just watched the Godzilla movie

Ironically, Aaron Taylor-Johnson did far better as "Guy Running All Over" in Avengers Age of Ultron.

 

Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty only has 18 minutes of screen time, Beetlejuice in... Beetlejuice only has 20 minutes, and the shark in Jaws doesn't make a full appearance until the 90 minute mark.

 

Yeah but the stuff beside that wasn't boring dreck about boring soldier guy with boring wife.

That's not ironic. I would expect him to play a guy who runs all around better in a movie where his character's whole thing is running around

Maybe that was his audition for the Avengers. You're not good enough for them unless you can properly handle watching monsters wage war.

 

And I expected Phoenix to not suck in X-Men: The Last Stand, but here we are.

Watch 'em again. You'd be surprised at how much they have military or science guys talking than kaiju showcasing. And if you think the human interaction in the 2014 film is bad you never seen the Heisei series of Godzilla films where the human interaction is almost difficult to stomach.

Really dodged a bullet there with that saving of your Quicksilver joke.

It's not the amount: it's the level of enjoyment.

I remember what I watched. My point was that I'll take BAD AND WACKY AND DUMB over "REALISTIC" AND BORING.

The bits with Bryan Cranston were totally good though, and that's why I was so disappointed with the rest of the human drama.

I'm not even calling 2014 Godzilla "bad." Never once did I say that. I'm saying it was vastly disappointing all the same.

 

I will admit that Cranston was one of the better human characters and honestly wish there was more of him... BUT after the male MUTO comes in his character ceases to have any sort of motivation and to keep him he'd have to take a background role. :\

 

Not that it didn't make sense, I just think the plot could have been written a lot better in general. I'd far prefer to have had Cranston as the protagonist: he's that much more interesting than his son in every way.

 

True. Though what sort of role he'd play in the film? I mean his son was a soldier and did soldier stuff near the kaiju (which is a nice change up of the usual Scientists Watch Kaiju Fight In Distant Lab), sure he wasn't exactly the most interesting human protagonist but he actually DID things. Cranston though... I just can't think of a way you could write the script to keep him the main character. But let's for argument sake, say he didn't die. Let's go from there.

 

Maybe Godzilla needs a buff to fight multiple MUTO's at once, so Cranston and....Serizawa (had to think for a second) device some kind of wacky potion or incite a berserk state or something, meaning that, even if the MUTO's are dead, there's a chance they'll have to figure out what to do against an even stronger Godzilla afterward

And how would they know to not only create this potion but get it into the giant radioactive monster who can tank nukes? And how would they even know how to tailor it to Godzilla's genetic code in order to create the desired effect? Not like they have any other Godzilla walking around for testing or know if it would even work cause if it doesn't they just wasted what is likely four days of research to make glorified snake oil.
