I mean, you can't blame the guy for being upset that he was recasted without even a phone call after pouring his heart and soul into that role. I mean it, not only did he voice the character since 1997, but he had taken pay cuts at one point so they could afford to get the same people back. He helped with the localisations with each entry. Heck, he played every entry in the series and was the only cast member to do it. He's played more Metal Gear games than Kojima. And he physically starred in the intro for MGS4. Only to be replaced because Kojima has a hard on for movie actors? And to be given the excuse "Yo, Big Boss is getting old." Yeah, well so was Snake in MGS4 bro. And why did Japan keep the same actor?

It's pretty insulting dude. Hayter had every right to be ticked off.

No I mean, David Hayter making a big deal out of it was a sort of publicity stunt. I really don't think Kojima wouldn't call him or tell him that they're switching actors since he is the voice of Snake. It just makes no sense at all since he's so well recognized. And for who, Kiefer Sutherland? But blah, I could be totally wrong. We'll find out eventually I guess. It looks like Phantom Pain is coming out in early 2015.

Eh, here's the thing.. Hayter does a lot for the localisations. Which usually leads to script changes... Kojima hates script changes. He got rid of Jeremy Blaustein for a similar reason. Plus, the JP voice is the same, so wouldn't that prevent that type of plot twist from being a global thing?

The sad truth here is that Kojima wants to be a film maker first, so he cast a real actor who won't interfere with his dream of a 100% exact translation of his scripts :/

 

This whole "Kojima wanted an unchaged script" thing could very well have affected Sutherland's performance as Snake, I just realized D:

 

I mean, I just think Sutherland doesn't know the character. He says "Kept you waiting, huh?" like an actual and genuine question (add in the sentence "Sorry, I overslept" after all of his Kept Ya Waiting's). Hayter said it with a chuckle and with a bit of condescension, but in a good way that made it seem as if Snake knew who he was.
