I'm planning on participating, but is there a specific time zone the 8:30 PM turn-off is supposed to be in? I can't find it anywhere ;~; . Is it just local time?

My question to youtube is, if it's such more efficient to have a black background...why not make the background black all the time.

    Youtube does what it wants.

That is a hard lesson that most everyone has had to learn over the years~

There's this myth among conscious internet users (see: senior citizens) that lighter sites = more trustworthy. Light designs do have their merits, but saving energy is more important, I think. Given the number of people that visit YouTube everyday, it could, potentially, save quite a lot. Your monitor requires the most energy to display white (it's pure white), whereas shades of black and gray are very little amounts.

I'll be working at the hour so I don't have much of a choice. However, I do work at a movie theater so it's dark all the time~

Because people are used to it being white. They like to keep up basically the same atmosphere even though they screwed up the interface so much over the years.

And yet everyone still uses it, even you? What could replace it?

Oh, that's interesting. Thanks for the info.

Daily motion, there's a few other sites that are more lenient than Youtube, but is just the preferred site, by myself included.

No offense to Stardust or anyone else participating in this, but I find Earth Hour to be silly, to be honest...

Turning off the lights one hour, one day, every year, to "raise awareness?"

Nah, I'll stick to keeping the lights off on a regular basis instead. It kind of reminds me of the KONY 2012 fad, where everyone shared pictures, links, etc; you're not an activist because of this.

I do feel the same way sometimes but, if people are doing something good (saving energy), I really don't care what sort of fad is attached to it.

I know extremely little about it. Give me the rundown?

It gives people an excuse not to do it the rest of the year. People will say, "But we already did earth hour this year didn't we?," and so on.

Nothing really to it, nowadays its not much different from youtube, but back in the day you could upload longer videos, higher quality videos aswell, it's been years since I visited the site, but I know that now youtube basically does everything that daily motion did.

I see. I never see any Daily Motion videos around though. It has been a very long time.

I forgot about it and watched a movie through it... does this mean I'm going to hell?

So it wasn't a set time in all zones, but a specific hour of the day in each? What hour is it?

There's a special little corner of hell for the people who use technology on Earth Hour.

What hour it is now, where I am at? 23:12, or 11:12PM. I checked the site just now, it is also telling me earth hour has come and gone.

Just for me and the one other guy in the world, who has ever used techs on planet hour? Talk about luxury!

Oh no yeah it's pretty great.
I hear they have a movie night once a year.
    It's on March 31st around 8:30.
