So apparently the World Health Organization is making Swine Flu a big deal again.

Goddammit guys just ****ing stop.

I am very annoyed of this insane paranoia.

 

As am I. I'm pretty sure everyone realizes that it's a load of bull at this point, though. Well, everyone except the fine people down at the World Health Organization.

 

Apart from, you know, the tripling of cases in a week in Australia. From the technical definition it is a pandemic. It's just a word, you assign whatever meaning or importance to it that you want.

 

It annoys me how if you cough in public you get nasty looks.

 

The problem is we already knew it was a pandemic. And I'm simply generalizing here, but in this part of the world (possibly with the exception of Mexico, and they have good reason), the fear and such had died down. We already have relative items to treat it anyhow. My point is by this announcement they made may simply have ignited the fear all over again.

 

It wasn't a pandemic before. There has to be rapid transmission from person to person in at least two countries. That second country is, as of now, Australia.

They have to make the announcement so that no-one can turn round in the future and say "Why didn't you warn us?"

 

I like how Swine Flu is being blown way out of proportions, but the new strand of AIDS which can be spread through sweat and saliva, currently breaking out in China, has been given no news coverage.

 

It may have not been an official pandemic per se, but people themselves already considered it a pandemic, regardless if the terms of it being a pandemic were incorrect. Since the general public obviously wouldn't know what a pandemic truly was by definition.

It just goes to show it is impossible to please everyone.

 

Tell the people in China to stop fucking everyone they see.

Who cares what the general public think? WHO is an official organisation with a very important job. They have to do things by the book, whether or not the public understand what exactly is going on.

People should be competent enough to find out for themselves. It's mostly the media's fault anyway.

They are, but what I am saying is simply that the general public are dumbfounded on this details of what is happening, leading to a tidal wave of rise and fall in paranoia. And public paranoia usually affects everyone even if you know the facts. WHO doesn't directly affect what goes on in our lives, they are simply the heads of our awareness on health around the world. It is the public itself that spreads rumours and false facts around which lead to these things, along with the media, as you said.
