So I'm trying to get all of the synthesis items, and one of the things I need comes from this little monster:

Basically, you defeat 1 and more appear, and if they spot you, they will shoot you and they won't stop. I have tried casting stopra on them, which probably lasts about 2 seconds. A lot of guides have told me to use stop, fire and thunder, but I keep running out of MP and ethers and it's ridiculous! I'm using a keyblade that gives me a lot of MP as well. If anyone has any tips, please let me know!

I would suggest turning off any Combo Plus' and finishers like Ripple Drive and Stun Impact. Once you cast Stop while still unnoticed, cast Thunder and wail on it with normal attacks. Even try using Strike Raid after casting Stop.

This is definitely a pain in the ass and can take a few tries to get it right. Maybe wait until you have Stopga and Thundaga before tackling them.

This guy is really annoying :( Another tip I would say is once the target is locked on you, no matter how many you kill they won't drop the synthesis item, so don't waste time like I did trying to kill them all.

Awesome, thanks. I'll try that. I have thundaga but to get stopga you need to defeat Phantom and I'm just putting that off for as long as possible :P

Thanks for the tip! I have to figure out how to sneak around them then because they always spot me!

Stopga has a larger range but the same time so that shouldn't be necessary. Max MP however determines magic strength and that not only allows more casts, but each cast will stop for longer. I honestly never casted anything other than stop myself, but MP for faster kills vs MP for extra time shouldn't change the outcome much.

Another helpful note, when they see you they will spend a second with glowing eyes and jumping around. They can still be stopped in this time. It is only once new ones start showing up that you have lost and need to bail.

Keep at it as the drop odds go up for each one you defeat each round. As much of a pain it is to get them at first once you get the hang of it you can come out with 5+ on a regular basis.

Yep, Mixt hit the mark. Maxing out your MP is extremely useful for this. Equip Spellbinder or Diamond Dust if you have it, plus other accessories like Ray of Light.

If you summon Bambi, he'll essentially give you an unlimited amount of MP. If that runs out make sure you have elixirs/ethers ready, and equip Goofy with his MP Gift ability.

When entering the Second District, I'll usually go right and drop behind the stairs to hide. If I'm playing it safe, I'll cast stop, followed by 2 thunders, and then repeat. Obviously that takes a lot of MP though, so you have to be prepared for that. You can take a more direct approach using physical attacks (a combination of both is probably best), but you just have to be careful. If you don't position yourself correctly, it won't stop all of them, which can be trouble.

Okay my brother found a pretty much fool proof method that I tried today, worked perfectly. Equip firaga to a shortcut button, and make sure you have a keyblade/accessories that boost MP. Then enter second district from first and jump to just in front of the fountain. At this distance they won't spot you, no need to cast stop or anything, then just lock on and spam firaga. Should take about 6 hits for each and you can send off the spells very rapidly. If they jump out of range you might need to be a bit patient until they come back into range, but with this method I really quickly got as many synthesis materials as I needed :) The best thing is you can just keep going like this for ages, because firaga takes so little magic.

Another one I heard if that doesn't work for you is to fly in on Dumbo and spin round splashing everyone, but I tried this and it didn't work as well as the above method.

I always forget about that method. It may be one of the slower ones but really the only danger is if they decide to bounce toward you. But speed doesn't matter much when you are just looking to get some period. Just remember that if you are going to extend this method with ethers that you want to use them early. (e.g. going from 7 to 10 MP gives you 27 casts, but going from 0 to 3 MP gives you 6 casts)

Awesome, guys, thanks for the tips! I'll try them out and let you know how I go! :)
