    in 2 hours i learned that skype is dumb
    so is microsoft
    everything is dumb
    dumb laptop
    dumb merging accounts
    dumb skype display name
    i hate skype and microsoft

    I had this problem not long ago. Just download Skype again from the website and you should be able to run Skype from the desktop without needing to use the Microsoft app or being forced to use only your Microsoft account.

    But I'm     over it. That was a dark and disappointing chapter of my life and I'm glad it's over.

    Try Right Click -> Save Link As.... What file does it want to DL? If it's something like 'Skypewithotherstuff.exe' then download it. You're in business.

    Yeah, if you're using a Windows 8 computer, the Skype app pre-installed is awful; I downloaded the Skype for desktop after using the app version for a good 20 minutes, lol.

    Since Skype updated itself a few days ago it keeps crashing on me as it loads ;-; I am lucky when it loads properly.

    But good that it's working for you : D
