It's a chilly autumn night, the downpour of rain chilling you to your bones as you begin to open your eyes. Your stare at the shackles that bind you, tethering you to a thick piece of wood. You try to speak but you are gagged and begin to cough. You look around to see others bound and gagged as you are, half of them asleep. You attempt to break away from the chains. They jingle loudly as you feel a sharp pain come across your back. Silent tears fall from your eyes. You start coughing again as you observe the person next to you. She's an older girl, looks about sixteen, with messy blonde hair covering most of her face. The jingling must have attracted her attention, because you see her aqua eyes staring intently at you. You see she's not gagged as she gives you a weak, meaningless smile.

You hear footsteps crunch under auburn and golden leaves. You assume the man has retreated to his family's tent. You shake your head violently, and disparately use your tongue to push the gag out of your mouth. Tears of relief fall to the murky ground as you are free from the gag. You whisper to the girl, "What's your name?" The girl shakes her head as she opens her mouth wide. You gasp as you finally see it. The girl has no tongue.

Your breathing becomes quick and shallow as you attempt again to break your bonds. More footsteps, and they're coming closer. "You're a bothersome demon child, aren't you? Well, might as well do it now." A man appears in front of you, a sinister smile across his face. He gags you once again and pulls out a knife. Your eyes look to the girl, as she looks away. You see where her knees rest on the ground there's traces of dried blood. Your eyes widen as you realize what's finally happening. Removing you gag, the man maniacally whispers, "This'll only hurt a little." You thrash around for some time, until a strong pair of hands force you to the ground, pinning you down. Your legs supporting your body suddenly feel weak and the man pulls out your tongue...

The country you are living in, named Svatantratā, is split into two territories. The North, Śānti, is where the lush, green forests and rivers are found, the whole territory teeming with life. Farming and fishing are the main revenues for the North. The South, Mauta, is a barren wasteland, where the exiled from Śānti are sent. The only traces of wildlife are fish, found in the three small ponds: Pahalē, Dūsarā, and Tīsarā and unfortunate small creatures (such as squirrels, chipmunks, and mice) that stray too far from the forests and into Mauta territory.

Tired of living in such poor conditions, citizens of Mauta waged war against those of Śānti. Making crude tools from dead branches that blew into the South, rocks, and the like, fighting soon broke out. Due to their criminal past (the reason why most of the South were exiled there in the first place), Southerners are merciless and are skilled the the art of stealth, trickery, and killing. The current situation of the war is pretty even between both territories, but Mauta may soon gain the upper hand...

You are a "demon child", as everyone calls you, ones of "true evil". The village that you reside in is named Atyācāra, one out of a few in Mauta. When you turn the age of eleven, the elders of the village perform a ritual, called Acchā hai yā burā. During this ritual, you are bound to a large piece of wood and the elders cast white magic spells over each child. Those who react violently to these spells are deemed evil ones, and nicknamed "demon child". The "demon children" are kept bound to the wood, where they stay until death. Those who are "cleansed of all evil spirits" are set free and live normal lives in the village.

In all reality, there's no such thing as a "demon child". Instead of casting white magic over some children, they cast black magic, thus causing those children to react violently. It is unknown why the elders of each village perform these rituals in the first place, but it is forbidden to ask and is punishable by death. Maybe the elders have something they're hiding...

EDIT; I've added a new character choice, normal children. These are children (well, actually ranging from child - adult) that will help your character escape, since doing it alone is virtually impossible. I am also going to need a few of these characters, and they can also obtain a weapon if so desired.

1. No God-Modding.
2. Do not kill a character under any circumstance unless you have the roleplayer's permission and I have proof of this permission.
3. Keep it PG-13, and no excessive gore. Keep romance (if there is throughout the roleplay) clean, no filthy sex scenes or something like that. >.>
4. Regarding weapons, there will be some available after the "demon children" are freed. You have the choice of picking a weapon, but think of the time this roleplay takes place. Make it make sense. NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE A WEAPON!
5. Remember, none of your characters have had any professional practice with his/her chosen weapon. Don't make your character automatically a master at it, it'll take time to perfect!
6. Not every character has had their tongue cut out yet, but some have. Remember this!
7. You can have four characters in total: two demon children, one village persecutor, and one normal child.
7. I may add new rules that I think of as the roleplay moves forward, so be sure to check on them every once and a while!

Only being allowed to stay in the village, she likes to explore and discover new things.
History: Ever since she was a mere child, Irene has always been ignored by her family. She was never very popular either, despite her caring nature. Irene is the youngest daughter of her parents, who gave all their affection and attention to her two older sisters, Persephone and Amber. She always got the food no one else wanted and suffered from the evil stares her "beloved" family gives her. When Irene was deemed a "demon child", she pleaded for her family before she was gagged. She looked to the side to see her family walking away to their tent, not a single goodbye or "I love you" said. Ever since then, Irene dreams of being released and being able to explore the world.

She can get very jealous at the slightest thing, and isn't afraid to show it. Delilah will pick a fight with someone, if she has the right motivation.
History: Ever since she could remember, her brother has always been there for her. When her father was forced to fight in the war, she knew her brother could protect her, and keep her and her mother safe from harm. She was always dreading the day she would have to do her ritual, and when it finally happened, it seemed like her perfect little world fell down to reality. She still remembers the first day it happened, and her shivers would make her shackles break the black silence in the night. Her brother came through the darkness, and whispered to her, "I will save you. I promise!" and ran off, before any of the elders saw him there, talking to a demon child.
Ever since then, she has counted the days. She has counted the hours. She knows her brother will save her... right?

After all, they came from the same womb, right?
After the war began, Jude's father was forced to fight along with the rest of the men, and died because of it. Jude still doesn't know about their father's death. When Delilah was sent for her ritual, Jude noticed something completely different about her ritual from how he remembered his. And she's now considered a demon child. Jude is now searching for a way to get the children, including his sister, to the North side, where they will be safe.

Uh... that's impossible, in roleplay terms.

You see, if you read the Backstory, you'd see that once you are deemed a demon child, you are stuck, chained to a wooden post. Meaning it would be impossible for Mr. Travish to attempt to kill him and for the family to "hide" him.
