(don't know if this is the official poster, what with the "2011" release date)

It finally has a release date: October 26, 2012 for US. Oh yeah, in 3D!!!!

What we know so far is:

-different writer and director than the first movie (thank God): Michael J. Basset
-based off the plot of Silent Hill 3, and a sequel to the first Silent Hill movie
    -finished production sometime in March
-will include Brookhaven Hospital (now Asylum), Lakeside Amusement Park, Green Lion Antiques, and more locations from the games.

    Cast includes:
-Adelaide Clemens as Heather Mason (I'm ok with this)
-Kit Harrington as Vincent (I can see it working)
-Carrie-Anne Moss as Claudia Wolf (no problems I can see)
-Malcom McDowell as Leonard Wolf (works I guess)
-Martin Donovan as Douglas Cartland (seems a little bit young for him)
-A new character not in the game or previous movie, Heather Marks as "Suki"

And returning are Radha Mitchell as Rose Da Silva and Sean Bean as Harry Mason (formerly Chris Da Silva?).

There currently are no trailers, but there are a few photos from the film:

My opinion so far: it looks promising. I'm so glad we have a different director. Christopher Gans was sexist and weird (not the right kind of weird for Silent Hill, mind you), and Roger Avary was...ok. Don't know much about Michael J. Basset, but he seems a pretty cool guy, and I trust him more with the film than Gans. Really excited to see a film-version of the Closer and Valtiel :D

Err ... huh ? I' m not gonna comment the "weird" part cause I don' t know what you mean by that but ... sexist ? Lolwut ?
Being French myself, like Gans, I can tell you this :
    - All the interviews in French featured in the BluRay were very, very poorly translated.
    - Christophe Gans sucks at speaking English, as evidenced by his lousy accent.

As for Revelations that poster is indeed a fake, and I' m glad the movie finally got a release date(it was starting to smell really fishy now that the post-production is over). BTW, MJ Basset talked in depth with Gans to make sure Revelations doesn' t contradict the first movie.

Well, I was about to link a video with a quote by him about loving American bimbo's, but I read that that was a joke about him from Roger Avery. Maybe sexist was the wrong term...

But I did watch the behind-the-scenes, and, regardless of how bad his English may be, Gans wanted to make the first movie an entirely female cast., and said in interviews that Harry Mason (protagonist of the first Silent Hill movie) "acts like a woman", which is why they re-wrote him as a mother, cause apparently a father wouldn't be as protective of a child? Except there was a reason for Harry to be Heather's only parent: its part of a certain event in the 3rd game that I won't spoil. But I've no problem with either gender being dominant in a cast, as long as there's a purpose, and there is for the games.

Not to mention he pretty much turned the plot of Silent Hill into a witch-hunt movie, and other inconsistencies that are just plain off. But regardless, the first movie is the best video game adaptation film.

Also, I meant weird as in, looking back on the past films he's directed, and seeing how he directed the first Silent Hill film, he really doesn't understand how to convey the atmosphere and horror of the games into a film. Too much dialogue, too many characters, and a pretty unnecessarily gory climax, among other things. These aren't what Silent Hill is known for. Still, like I've said, its an ok adaptation, and decent movie on its own.

It' s not that a father wouldn't be as protective of a child, it' s that he wouldn' t act as impulsively as a mother and would choose a more cold-minded approach to help. Although it is a generalization overall I agree, and although it wouldn' t have been reason enough for me to turn Harry into a woman I didn' t mind it either. Also, the other explanation that Gans gave is that the SH universe is, in many ways, a matriarchy. Though I didn' t notice it myself until I heard him say it, I agree.

That' s the thing. You can' t. A game is a game, a movie is a movie. I guess there was room for Gans to keep closer to the games, but personally I was quite satisfied with his depiction of the town.

The French BluRay has more material than the US version, so maybe you don' t know that :

    - The producers messed with the movie a lot. For instance they insisted to shoehorn the whole Chris Da Silva arch. Gans didn' t want it, it added nothing to the story and the movie rhythm suffered from it.

    - At some point the shooting started to lag behind its planning (thanks Chris). The ending was shot last, Gans thought the producers would concede him a one or two days bonus to wrap everything up, but they didn' t, so he was left with 24 hours to shoot the ending. The initial plan was to have that hole in the ground spew a whole Pyramid Head army rather than barbwire, but Gans only had a single PH actor/costume at his disposal and 24 hours to shoot everything so ... yeah. If I was given 24 hours to imagine and shoot a different ending I' m not sure I would have done any better.

I'm gonna be happy when this comes out! Comes out close to my birthday, so I hope they don't change the date or anything. I have the first movie, and I like it. I think they did a pretty good job on making it. And the pics for this movie look aaa-mazing!

God, I'm excited. Leonard is my favourite character of Silent Hill of all time. I hope he keeps the same level of epicness that he had on the game (SH3 is my favourite game of the series~ largely due to his character).

Umm....this Leonard? Or are you maybe thinking of Vincent?

(also Silent Hill 3 is also my favorite in the series, followed very closely by 2)

Thats him! *fangirl squeal* I love how delusional he is. I once wrote a poem about him, and won a cash award for my poetry~ I was pretty dedicated back when it first came out. I think he's just the coolest! When they first announced a movie on SH3 I was stoked to the max, and I'm so glad he is actually going to be in the film. :D

Vincent is nice to by the way.

Does it matter that Douglas's actor looks "young" for the character? Just as long as he can act the part Im fine. Doesn't really matter though because he looks old enough anyway :P

    October 26, why are you so far away? ;_;
    Curse you Halloween weekend! D<
Still going to see it though :)

Those are just my minor personal opinions. Of course I care more about the actor's talent in the role than their age. Its just that having differently aged actors for a character feels a tiny bit off, like Veidt in the Watchmen movie.

If the movie is coming out in October which I hope it does...why hasn't there been any trailers for it yet. I have been waiting and waiting to see the trailer but it's already July.

To be honest, I think the release date will be pushed back AGAIN. I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

    So....here's the trailer....

WHY did they have to bring Pyramid Head back? I mean, maybe a little cameo would have been cool, but they're just whoring it out now. Pyramid Head is supposed to be James's own manifestation, NOT the trademark baddie.

I'm not sure how I feel so far about the movie...it doesn't look scary at all. The doll creature is probably my favorite part of the trailer, and admittedly the actress for Heather looks fitting for the role, but again I already see too many human characters (A WHOLE STONKING TOWN) which the first film suffered from, and it looks like there'll be more senseless gore than actual creepiness (first film's climax, anyone?).

And the 3D....I'm sorry, this film just has little to no chance of being even remotely scary now. Films can have nice 3D scenes (Avengers, Avatar, etc.) but to title the film after this now oft-ineffective and overused gimmick just goes to show they're more interested in trying to go "BOO HAHAH YOU GOT SCARED BY A 3D MONSTER WHOOO" than truly try to convey the feelings of loneliness and fear from the games.

This is all speculation, of course, but right now, my excitement for the film just went from "Maybe this could work" to "...well, what was I expecting?"
