    It wouldn't solve anything.

I'm pretty sure the only reason you asked such a question is because knives have a history of being used to kill other people. Screwdrivers can be used to inflict fatal wounds on people as well, so should we be required a license to buy and use screwdrivers too then?

Slippery slope argument. The moment you let one thing go, there are other things you'll have to consider.

This is why things like abortion and euthanasia are sensitive topics.

Some parents aren't fit to raise children and are taken away by social workers. Should we be required to have a license to have children?

You should have a license to carry a knife in open spaces. Such as for hunting.

An event that would support my point, is just two words, a name and a surname some are familiar with:
    Robert Knox

I'd say yes mainly because I'm not a fan of people walking down the street carrying weapons and no1 gives a care.

I'd say no because then I'd have to (along with countless other people that just collect knives and weapons) get rid of my knife and sword collection or go pay money to the government to own somethings every year or 5 or whatever and well, that to me just seems to be BS. Also, who is going to be eligible for this license? What age does a person have to be? I used to sit outside at age 8 and learned to carve wood with a knife from my grandfather. So if I wanted to teach my kid someday I'd have to go get him or her a license? It just seems way too extreme an act.

I agree that a license should be required for any knife or knives used in hunting or fishing. But that begs the question of what about kitchen knives or those that have a family crest with a shield and a sword? They are just as deadly as a hatched or mashetti, but do they need to be licensed? I'm not sure.

There would have to be regulations on what does and doesn't require a license or permit, but either way, someone somewhere is going to go against the rules and sell knives to individuals that should get them in their hands (similar to guns and narcotics)
