I know. Seeing this as a "war" isn't very good. However, it explains the idea. I would venture to say that it's called "The War on Drugs" simply because it's easier to say/write than "Making efforts in order to forbid drug use". Neither side is filled exclusively with people taking this as a war in which both sides must fight until one is exterminated for their opinions. It's like saying "The war on death penalty", the "war on abortion", the "war on poverty" (which, according to the links you posted, is probably from where the term "war on drugs" came to be). When hearing such term, you instantly know what you're talking about, even if it's not something literal. Despite the fancy names, it's still a debate.

For this reason, it's not something you can win or lose. There are many kinds of drugs, and their accessibility is very different from one place to another. Even if one country manages to legalise/illegalise all drugs in existence, the debate will still be active on the rest of the world, and probably even in the country who took action.

I agree with the idea to be honest. It WOULD generate money for the economy, but then I am kinda biased since I am all for it being legalised.

That would be a great thing to tax....since so many people use it everyday......but i highly doubt that the Govt would do it..........well actually i have been told that it helps lower eye pressure and i have glaucoma, and it would help me not go blind.......but i have never smoked it before......so ya, i think that it should be legalised..........

Yes. It should be. I admit that I am only saying this because my opinion is biased, but the grounds that it is biased around give me a special something called firsthand experience. :D

    I don't think they should.
In my opinion many people would abuse if it was legalized.

From 1968-69 weed was legal in the U.S. Weed is legal in California if you have a medical card. Weed should be legalized in the U.S. because it would more than likely improve the economy as well as give our government a fiscal boost.

i dont think that marijuana should be legalized because of what it is doing to many people: desroying their lives.
plus, it would make police officers' jobs easier if it wasnt legalized because many people would use it poorly, thus making the officers needing to get onto more people.

    so i say no.

    and thats pretty freaky.

    1. Give examples of how peoples lives are being destroyed.
2.It would actually be easier for the officers if they didn't need to go after these people, would it not? then they would be able to spend more time on, you know, people like murderers and rapists and kidnappers. Am I right?

People can get pot from anywhere. I could get pot tonight if I felt like it despite the fact it is illegal. I wouldn't since I don't want that crap in my system, but I could. Why? Because there are so many people that do pot despite the law, or because of it, and the drug war on pot is just impossible to deal with.

Pot is, when it comes down to it, as harmful as cigs and alcohol, no matter how people try to lie and declare it's worse. It's not one of the more dangerous drugs like meth, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin etc. And if anything it would make cops' lives easier and also get out people from jail that are in there for simple 'possession'. Cops could go after people on the more serious drugs instead that are actually super harmful to the people and their families and friends, if pot was treated as alcohol was, in that you cannot drive while intoxicated on it, and that people (of course) cannot smoke it in public areas.

Also, people will abuse anything. We can't make everything illegal because there are numbskulls out there who abuse it. They have issues of addiction and escapism and we can't go to making food illegal, toys illegal, alcohol illegal, video games illegal, etc. This suggests to me instead we need more rehab centers that exclusively study 'addiction' and help with it and dump stupid programs like the 12 Step that only work for Christians 1/10th of the time if that.

I'm curious why you say that having pot as illegal makes life at all easier for cops or the justice system as a whole since the only -good- thing out if it is that cops can sell repossessed items such as cars and houses from serious drug sellers. The only benefit I see is monetary and even that is not as beneficial in the end as legalizing pot, freeing up some cells for more serious potent threats to society, such as child molesters, rapists, aggravated assault sorts and murderers. Cops signed up really to not deal with pot, but because they wanted to make a difference. If anything, we'd probably have a lot less jaded police officers if they could stop the crimes that are more important to being dealt with instead of having to do this crap of trying to stop pot that is everywhere. As I've talked to quite a few cops, I can say 'off the books' most of them I have conversed with are sick of pot calls. Also, there probably isn't an adult alive who does not at least know of some others who smoke pot and we're not about to bother narcing on them because who cares, but some people that are constantly intent with minding anyone else's business?

Marijuana may not be a physical gateway, but it can be a social gateway. It can still lead to other drugs.

The solution is to legalize it and remove it from that social scene.

No; You really think that everyone wants to watch people die because of that ****>?

Honestly I can't really grasp the concept of why people do it. Marajuana is helpful in the medical field but only to a certain limit, then it beomes dangerous. I'd hate to think that if it ever becomes legal that people will take advantage of it -some already do- and use it against themselves (suicide etc...) or other people. I don't have anything against people who do drugs/alcohol or smoke ****, but do they know what's happening to them at all?

And y'know all the people that can get the drugs just like that? *clicks fingers* Well I hope they have a nice life, don't put that **** in your body. Your going to regret it, no matter what you say know. Would I do drugs if they didn't poison me? Would I smoke if there wasn't such a high risk of getting lung cancer/greengang/heaps of other diseases? Probably yes to both these questions. But here's the simple fact: It ****s you up, makes you high, and ruins you entirely. No I won't smoke or do drugs, ever.

So I say NO to weed/marijuana being legalized.

This is a baaaaaaaad post. You make it sound like 90% of people who smoke weed die their very first time. It isn't all that harmful actually, if anything it's actually LESS harmful than cigarettes which you have nothing against. You would be surprised at the intelligence of some of my pot-smoking friends, sure there are the ones of average or lesser intelligence but there are some really smart people I know who just happen to enjoy smoking pot. And to marijuana ****ing you up so badly? the effects of it aren't that bad. On the day when a person can walk into a school and tell WITHOUT drug tests who has and hasn't smoked pot, on that day I will admit that marijuana ****s some serious **** up. But the effects of it aren't really as bad as some of the conspicuously more LEGAL things out there.

Go out and smoke pot in front of a police officer and see what he thinks of your little logic system here.

It's not a drug that's hard to find. I mean, it's everywhere. But really, to me, I don't really care what they do with it because I'm not going to f- myself up enough to get into crap like that. I don't know if legalizing it would be using reverse pshycology. If people legalize it then they think that they aren't BA enough anymore and have to go find something that IS illegal. People are screwed up in their thinking when it comes to drugs and them doing it. Medical marijuana, I dunno, I'm pretty sure you can find something else as an alternative, but I know that all of it (smoking whatever it maybe, alcohol, etc.) is just a bad habit.
