Why do I feel most of you get your information from anti-drug associations?

Ok, let's try from a different point. Let's say I have a medical issue. Marijuana has been easing my pains. Is it still bad to be healed by a drug?

I can probably find half a dozen drugs that'll do the exact same thing better. Marijuana is basically a narcotic. It makes you ignore your pain, it doesn't block it.

What's your point? Marijuana stops the pain, with limited to none side effects compared to the rest of the legal drugs out there.
People can build a tolerance to painkillers, but the drug is still in their system and thus we have an overdose case.
    You can't overdose on marijuana.

It is possible to overdose on any substance, it's called saturation. Textbook chemistry. Any one thing may only take in so much of any substance. Cannabis is no different.

No, pot makes you feel better, but the pain is still there. You're just ignoring it during your limited high. Most painkillers actually DO block the pain, and most of them don't interfere with driving or other activities (I know they say they do on the bottles, but that's just a legally required thing after like 1 person took one too many or something).

ya know, pot should be legalize, not cuz i do it, but people will still continue to grow/buy/sell this stuff, its like a never ending cycle in a dark business, plus if cigarettes are legal, why cant weed? like.. if it is legal one day, then people who have self control should get it, not immature lil ******s who run around "ooo im high blah blah blah" type of deal and i dont see the big deal pot anyways, no different from alcohol and cigs =/ hell id say its better then both combined.

Well, the only problem I hate with pot is that it is a gateway drug. Other than that its really not very different that cigarrettes or alchohol. Alchohol is actually a lot worse, imho.

Legalizing it would also probably be good for the economy to a certain extent. If it was legalized it would probably be heavily taxed though.

Any one who says it should be illegal because its unhealthy...i think thats just a little bit illogical. It's all a matter of choice. if you really feel that way, ban unhealthy foods too. and force people to excersize every day xD

It has been shown that pot is only a gateway drug through it's illegality. The use of Pot is typically all the average person bothers to do, because it's sufficient. Only at the point where Pot become an anti-culture does it lead to any other use simply because of the rebellion factor, and when you remove the availability of it people treat the situation as "Well, if they're not going to let me have my pot, there's still this". With legal availability of the substance, what need is there to do anything harder?

Aye, I don't think you guys are reading into this. There is little point in stressing our points further, but I am stubborn. If the actual truth isn't getting to you, I don't know what will.

I don't get why you think letting it be illegal will do anything. People will still buy, sell, and produce it. The only real difference is you'll be in jail for drug possession. And while people in jail are full of "addicts, as you still call them, there is no room for real criminals. Thus we have overcrowding in jails. That isn't very good.

Let's follow what California wants to do. Make it legal and put a tax on it. Not a lot of people like taxes. Who knows? It might lessen the need to try marijuana if taxes are involved. Then the State gets money from our "addicts", which they seriously need if they want to improve our own mini economy in Cali. Need money to make money. So, is there anything wrong with that? I predict you will have a comeback to this plan :\

that's actually what i believe. i don't like drugs, but i figured that if people are going to do them whether it is legal or not, we can legalize it and at least tax it and get some kind of benefit. i personally don't know enough about marijuana to know how dangerous it is but i would want a age restriction like for cigarettes or alcohol. i know kids can probably get it from someone older that they might pay off but i just wouldn't want it to be READILY avialable to kids.

Contrary to by mostly liberal thoughts, my opinion is that we should keep it illegal. And make every sort of drug illegal, INCLUDING alchool and tobacco.

All those things keep causing discomfort, harm, if not even death. Medical uses for marijuana aren't, to the best of my knowledge, something you absolutely need ; medicine can give you other solutions. There's a reason why marijuana is illegal, because, as all drugs, it can cause addiction, and a whole lot of problems after it.

People mention that alchool and tobacco are deadlier than marijuana... and they're most likely right. But that's not in any way a reason to legalize marijuana. On the contrary, sounds more like a reason to forbid all of them. The governments won't like it, because all the companies relying on the production and distribution of such products will be ruined. But when you turn on the news and hear about car accidents involving alchool, drunk people acting in violent fashion, cancers caused by cigarettes, and stories concerning more powerful drugs... more reasons to ban them appear. People keep dying because of those things. Why are we keeping some legal and some illegal? We must be consistent! Many people pointed this, but as a reason to legalize marijuana... well, not me, for, as I said already, I'm against each and every substance/narcotic that is harmful to the body.

So I say we forbid those lethal things... alchool isn't always dangerous, but I don't think the "traditionnal values" are worth the people explaining to me or you what ******ed things they did while drunk.

With alcohol, it's all about moderation. Know your limit. Smoking or doing anything else, don't start, you'll do harm to yourself.

i understand and feel that way too. but there's a problem. making something illegal will drive the business underground, in dark alleys and in black markets etc like with drugs today. i would feel marijuana should be legalized only to stop that, and so that the government can tax it and at least use the money for something better. and plus, i heard that marijuana isn't THAT harmful. i would still want the more dangerous drugs to STAY illegal because having them just readily avialable to be bought at the store, i don't think that's a good thing.

I thought about it this way too, but I'm not sure it's a good idea. Especially the time just after it's legalised. Something illegal is suddenly made legal. It will be more accessible... tremendously accessible, since everyone will notice just how much money they can make out of this business.
If it's illegal, it's still going on underground, indeed... it can dissuade people from trying to get it. Is it worth more than just legalising it? Difficult to say. And, unfortunately, it's difficult to test, as well. We can't legalise it for a month and see how things are going after it.
Making money by taxing it legally is an interesting idea... imposing a hefty tax could also keep some people away. It sounds a bit evil (no pun intended on your name), however, to get cash by letting something dangerous on the loose.

From where? Was it an unbiased, politically neutral, religiously neutral, independently funded research company, or was it the media? The mostly liberal, politically biased and financially influenced media? I don't TRUST the media. I don't even LIKE the media.

yea i thought about that too. i think that's something NO ONE wants to deal with. i think that in that period, there'll probably be all these news stories about teenagers getting high and stuff like that.

well, lots of sources say it has the same effect as cigarettes, except they are usually more powerful. so it's like a more dangerous cigarette, but (correct me if i'm wrong) not as dangerous as other drugs. and this was a while ago, i dont' remember if they were Liberal or anything, it could've been, but i don't remember. they didn't state it how i stated it, but that thing i said was kind of an my own inference from my sources actually. it wasn't from the news, that much i DO know. i do know about the Gateway Effect and addictive effects too, but marijuana in it of itself doesn't seem THAT harmful (once again correct me if i'm wrong). but since it does have the effects of cigarettes, i DO want an age restriction if it were to be legalized.

EDIT: also, i hope i'm not coming across as some pothead who just wants marijuana legalized so i can smoke it whenever i want, because that's not the case.

Making alcohol illegal could be the stupidest decision any government could make. The Prohibition did not work. And people complain about not learning from mistakes. Illegalising alcohol will make it dangerous and unregulated.
More people will die. More people will end up in jail.

You're naive and ignorant if you think otherwise.

You realise that most publicized drug information is government propaganda and that most media forms aren't allowed to publish studies that go against that propaganda.
Here in Australia, a school stocked a pamphlet that provided educational information on how to do speed safely. I understand some of you think that's an oxymoron, but irrespective of what you think, there is a dangerous way to do drugs and a safe way.
Safe meaning, have a buddy that stays sober so they can assess how you're doing and call the emergency services should anything happen. And information like how much is too much. Overdosing is the most common cause of drug related deaths, because people simply don't know how much is too much.
This pamphlet did not encourage drug use, in fact it discouraged it. But it's ignorant to think that people won't do speed, and yet the Australia government stepped in and burnt all copies.

Which I think is extremely irresponisble. If the governments aren't willing to legalize drugs, then they should publish the proper educational information.
You can't say "DON'T DO IT. IT WILL KILL YOU!" That doesn't work. We know it doesn't work. And in fact, encourages use. So if we really want to prevent deaths, we'd be providing the information that tells us at which point an overdose will occur with the differant illegal drugs.

Yes. I have. Because you can find "facts" to back up any argument you care to make. I doubt any figures you come up with, because you seem to me to be some pothead who just wants to be legal.
